Final week before election.

Post by rubato »

We're down to the final week and I am 'all in' for the cycle financially. These are the candidates I backed (to widely different degrees).

Amy McGrath
Jacky Rosen (stopped supporting when she and friends spammed my inbox many times a day)
Andrew Janz
Beto O'Rourke
Kyrsten Sinema
Conor Lamb
Susie Lee
Kristen Carlson
Andrew Learned (lost in primary)
Randy Bryce (stopped supporting when Ryan announced retirement)
Dan Feehan
Steven Horsford

Nate Silver has the forces of evil retaining control of the Senate and losing the House but I think Beto, Sinema, and Rosen are all close while the Heitcamp N Dakota seat is basically lost.

Well, I have pretty much filled out my betting ticket for next Tuesday. The only check mark for me in the GOP list is for New Castle County Sheriff.

That one because the Dem now on the ticket beat the incumbent in the primary, who was his boss. I don't like guys in a uniform who run for elected office against their uniformed boss unless there is some terrible scandal. There wasn't. Just my personal view And FYI, that office in Delaware is not like the same job title any where else. The sheriff here has a job that is called 'process server' everywhere else. In actual practice the work is farmed out to civilian private contractors. But the elected official gets the job title on the office door and gets to buy his uniform as a tax-deductible business expense.

My wife has informed me that I will be driving my Cadillac on Election Day...she will need my car to bring people to the polls. (Her Blazer and Grand National are both totally impractical for that.)

I'm registered as a democrat so I will be hauling illegal aliens to the polls on Tuesday.

And like most California Democrats Joe, I expect you'll be renting a full sized U-Haul truck on election day for that purpose...

I plan to vote late morning (one of the nice things about working for yourself is getting to schedule errands for when where you need to go is likely to be least crowded) and of course I'll be watching the election returns starting when the first polls close in the east (around 4 PM my time)...

If the Dems retake the House, I expect to do some celebratory drinking...

(If they fail to retake the House, I expect to be doing some even heavier drinking... :? )

I sent my ballot in today. I haven’t voted in person since the 80s but I have always voted.

I’m all in on this election, because I see the future of my country is written in the results. If good people don’t care enough to get out and vote en masse to stem the tide of GOP destruction of all that is good about this country, then we will descend further into fascism every day until we reach a point of no return, where healing is impossible because too many neighbors will have realized how hateful and monstrous are the hearts of their neighbors and how do you ever come back from that? I don’t care to see it; I’d rather check out with the slim hope that I’m wrong and things will get better in my absence than stick around to see it all become total shit.

Maybe I’ll got to Palau or Ecuador to practice law or teach English, or maybe I’ll just go to visit my ancestors.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

That sounds ominous. Don't do anything rash that you won't have a chance to regret. Regardless how you feel you're still OK in my book.

So... are there any Republicans that you think I should be voting for?
