Delightful story, Long Run.

After the toxic deluge of bad news, it does my heart good. :ok

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Here’s another heartwarming story about a young couple who have temporarily adopted a 93 year old WWII veteran who evacuated from Paradise:

I hope this gesture is one of sincere altruism. Unfortunately, my cynicism makes me view this as an opportunity for manipulation and elder abuse.

ETA: Air quality in San Francisco is the worst of any city in the world right now: worse than Dhaka, worse than Calcutta, worse than Ulan Bator, worse than Delhi, worse than Lahore....

Air quality in San Francisco is the worst of any city in the world right now
That's been true for the past two days...

I've never seen it anywhere near this bad out here; (not even during the Oakland Hills fire back in the 90s, and that fire was a lot closer to San Fran than this one is...)

Local schools and colleges were all closed yesterday and today, so we've had a lot of unplanned family time...(Fortunately none of us has any respiratory conditions)

But I thought this fellow who was quoted in this morning's Chron really put the situation we have in the city into proper perspective:
Parker Gibbs, a partner at the San Francisco music production company Light Rail Studios, said as poor as the air quality has been here, Bay Area folks should not lose sight of the bigger picture. “That smoke that is stinging our eyes, that is someone’s retirement home, that is someone’s hopes and dreams,” he said. “We may be dealing with an inconvenience, but those people lost everything.”

Yes, it's all about perspective. It's a time to appreciate what you have and donate what you can to help those who have lost nearly everything.

Concerning the Woolsey/Malibu Fire -- I bet 10% of those affected by this fire merely moved into one of their other homes in some other state.

If there is Federal aide available I hope they are the last to qualify for it.

I see The Great Consoler will be out here later today to meet with some of the survivors...

He'll probably come equipped with lots of rolls of paper towels and a lecture about forest management...

Nope, LJ, paper towels are for floods and storm surges.  This was a fire, so he'll probably show up with ash trays or cremation urns so they'll have some place to put what's left of their houses.
And he'll probably drag out that old chestnut of Ronnie's about how it would be better to cut down all the trees since they cause more air pollution than automobiles  (although in Reagan's defense, when they burn like this, he just might have been correct).

It's actually a good place for Trump to be. Hopefully, he won't be wearing a mask to filter out all of the pollutants coming from our burning mismanaged forests so he can give us a visual indication of the current air quality. At this point his orange face indicates "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups". After a short while in the area, it should be changing to purple for "Very Unhealthy" or maybe even brown for "Hazardous".

Jesus H. Tittyfucking Christ on a Yodeling Unicorn. Did he really call the town "Pleasure" instead of "Paradise"??? I actually had to look for a couple of video records of this—and yes, he said it...TWICE!—to confirm that it wasn't satire. There are no words.

Don't forget — in a tweet (which, nowadays, is considered an official Presidential statement  ... and don't get me started on THAT!) he referred to Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) as "Little Adam Schitt".   And if you believe that was an accidental typo or his iPhone doing an auto-correct, then you are definitely classified as an ID-10-T and shouldn't be trusted with sharp objects, heavy machinery, or a ballot.
