Oh, the vagaries of old age.
You can't go home again.

I miss omar's classic comeback:
"Your a looser".
"Your a looser".
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Ah, good ol' omar.
Paul "Big Daddy Omar" / Turd Scraper Of Doom
His tag line? I may have Alzheimers but at least I don't have Alzheimers.
Not conscious -- he died as he lived.Update re: omar

omar (Paul, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida)
Last stages of liver cancer and now in hospice care, and report I saw on Facebook's Misfits group, he is not conscious. I knew he had been having medical trouble, but he never really conveyed what it was.
Hotcha Kabotcha !!!

Re: Who here used to post on Cartalk and The Chat House?
I was atCafe Darte as Big R; never at the Chat House as I recall.

Yes, I am one of the Car Talk board originals. And Le Chat, also. Same handle, always.
So many names and memories. I lost track of English Teacher and Coopmeister. I visited with them in NH a few times. Wonder if they ever moved their growing family to her Oregon home, or they stayed east. And of course Nova Girl and her Library Guy. I miss them and their humor.

Stumbled across another board that shows promise — and, like the old Car Talk board, has connections with a media personality; in this case, one Cecil Adams. (OK, so he was a newspaperman/columnist in Chicago; it's still media...)
The Straight Dope message board. Their catchphrase/tagline is "Fighting Ignorance since 1973 (it's taking longer than we thought)" If you click over, check out the "Trivia Dominoes II" game in progress here.
Note that I am not advocating an exodus from Plan B, but with many of us having much more 'at home' time than normal during this period of quarantine/self-isolation/house arrest, I don't think there's anything wrong with being part of more than one bulletin board.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

I have been a member of The Dope for 15 - 20 years. I have posted minimally because it has a long list of rules. Most of us love the free atmosphere here.
ETA I registered in 2002 and have exactly 1 post in 18 years. I look in now and then, that's it.

I don't recall Library Guy and Nova Girl at the D.C. get together you arranged. I remember Bonkers. Not sure if her sister was there too. LJ was still in Virginia. I remember him and BobB together. I also remember a woman that worked for the national archives that had either written a book or did soon after.Guinevere wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 2:31 amYes, I am one of the Car Talk board originals. Library Guy introduced me to the German Commission E Monologues. I've lost track of how many I've given away. I have three copies on the shelf now.
Libraries have been discarding them for years not recognizing what a great reference they still are.
Thank you RBG wherever you are!

I remember my first (very humble) post at the Cafe was all in capital letters. That's how I was larn'd not to shout.
