SPOILER ALERT ON TODAY'S WORDLE








Does anyone use the Wordle bot to monitor your "skill level" in completing the puzzles? More and more often I am finding the results to be bizarre. Today, for example, the bot applied a completely nonsensical skill score to a correct answer:

My first guess was PRICE (skill score of 93, but irrelevant because the first guess doesn't factor into the overall score)
My second guess was LEAST (skill score of 96)
My third guess was BELLY (skill score of 99, the bot says it would have picked that word in this situation)
My fourth guess was BEVEL, which was the correct answer. The only other possible guess at that point was BEZEL, which the bot says it would have picked. BEVEL got a skill score of 74, while the bot would have given itself a 99 for BEZEL. In what universe could that make sense? I don't dispute that an incorrect guess could demonstrate more skill than a correct guess (because the correct guess could have been due largely to luck). But I don't see, when it came down to a coin toss between two words differing by only one letter, how there could be a 25 point difference in their skill values.

Also nowhere close to the first time that I had a correct guess downgraded substantially on skill. Another time, I got enough letters in my first guess that I was able to come up with the correct word on the second guess. Skill level was 62. The bot's incorrect guess was, of course, in the 90s.

I'm starting to believe that there is no actual logic to it, and that the bot just has to show itself to be smarter than you when it gets outplayed.
