You displayed the wrong hammer, which I find interesting since I thought you were a history buff.
No, it's the correct hammer. I thought you were a Pink Floyd buff. It symbolizes the march of totalitarian fascism - as exemplified by the current US administration and (presumably) most of your heroes.

How is it that the carpenter's hammer can be seen as a symbol of totalitarian fascism or any kind of fascism? The carpenter's hammer is a positive symbol—a symbol of progress, construction, and building warm homes for people to live in. What's wrong with that? I don't see the connection. Of course, there are many things I don't see, but I am always willing to learn.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

There's a bag-of-hammers joke here but I'm just not in the mood so you'll have to write it yourselves.

(sigh) 'How is it. . .?" because it was chosen.

(sigh) they could have chosen bananas, or adjustable wrenches. But my dear, Martel was not known as "the banana" or "the adjustable wrench" was he? No. You are perfectly aware that "the Hammer" is used symbolically for him as the destroyer of (your chosen term goes here).

So, (sigh), in the movie The Wall, hammers were envisioned by the protagonist (Pink) to represent the lock-step march of totalitarian forces. Specifically, "Pink hallucinates himself as a fascist dictator, and his concert as a Neo-Nazi rally. His followers attack blacks, gays, and Jews. He then holds a rally in London, and imagines marching hammers goose-stepping across ruins"

So, (sigh), now you know what should have been bleeding obvious all along.

Even the carpenters hammer comes in a variety of styles and varied utility. I doubt this ancient tribal leader referenced at the head of this thread was called that for his ability to frame a window without leaving dimples in the boards.

But when you really need a screw driver, any hammer ain't worth shit.

How's that old saying go again?

“There is no worse blind man than the one who doesn’t want to see.   There is no worse deaf man than the one who doesn’t want to hear.   And there is no worse madman than the one who doesn’t want to understand.”

I had never seen the movie. I just recently watched Kelly's Heroes and thought it was an outstanding film that I must have missed when I was younger.

That's true; there are a variety of carpenter hammers, also known as claw hammers. There are at least three general types: framing hammers, general-purpose hammers, and finishing hammers. However, the hammer that was used to describe Martel was not a carpenter's hammer or one used for construction. It was a hammer used for the destruction of human lives and limbs. The closest equivalent to it would be a sledgehammer, at least in terms of its use for destruction in preparation for rebuilding.

And if the net price of screws were to come down a little bit more, I think the hammer would become obsolete because screws are vastly superior to nails. If you think about it, all a nail does is act as a pin, and our houses are really not built—they're pinned together. That's why they come apart so easily. Screws could make our houses much stronger if they were used instead of nails

I'll leave it to someone else to decide if the awkward construction of the phrase negates the truth of it.

I get the feeling Lib's working hard on developing a sense of humor.

BB - well, have to allow for English as a second language in a 20th century person who hails from the American continent. It's a fun game though.

There is no worse one-legged man than one who refuses to use one leg. There is no worse chef than one who doesn't cook. There is no worse soccer player than one who keeps playing rugby.

Does the term pettifogger mean anything to you?

Most of the time it seems to me that pettifogger is the only tool in the tool box for the lawyers representing D J Trump, even before the Supremes.
