"The Departed" Returns

Post by Guinevere »

One of the FBI's top ten most wanted fugitives, James "Whitey" Bulger, the feared South Boston gangster, was captured last night in Santa Monica. Methinks it will be very interesting to see what happens next. He's going to be in court in LA this afternoon, and then (I assume) coming back to Boston some time thereafter. Speculation is rampant as to whether he will clam up, plead guilty, and never be tried, or if at 80+ he will spill his guts. And there is the question of what his partner on the lam, Catherine Greig knew, how they spent 16 years "away," and who helped them -- including whether his brother the fomer Speaker and President of U Mass. William Bulger or their families were involved.

Not knowing the background of all of this, it sounds like it would make for a great John Grisham novel.

Or a decent Scorsese movie even... ;)
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Not even as close to as fucked-up and nasty as Whitey Bulger.

And I thought it was a great movie -- it got a lot of it *exactly* right.

Didn't know a whole lot about him but from what I've been reading about the guy the past couple of days, it seems that despite his charismatic reputation in some quarters, the guy is a sadistic, stone cold sociopath....

It is not at all unusual for the sadistic quality to be masked by the charismatic.

Many serial killers exhibited such.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I thought it was a very good movie as well, if you like that kind of movie.

Seems like this real life guy has been romanticized given that he is murdering thug.
