Thanks guys. The irony of course is that we live on a mountain about 700m above sea level. The problem is that our property is set lower than many of those surrounding it so we get their run-off.

It's stopped for the time being but we're bracing ourselves for an even bigger rainfall over the weekend. Time to see if we can get down the mountain to get some provisions methinks.

Buy a surfboard while you're there! ;)

All kidding aside, don't wait till the last minute to make sure you're set with what you need, or to ride it out in a different location.

I'm hoping to own beachfront property soon... I'm just waiting for Springbrook Mountain to become Springbrook Island.

I mean, it's not like anyone will really miss the Gold Coast if it becomes the next Atlantis is it? ;)

Are you still cut off, or did you manage to get into town and get some supplies?
According to all the news down here, you've only got a brief respite until the rain etc hits again.
They're expecting it to get worse before ut gets better.

My family in Darwin is copping a drenching as well, but not as bad as you mob.

And to answer your query ... I wouldn't miss the commercialism of the Gold Coast, that's for sure. :-)

There are two roads down from here Alice. One is closed, and will be for a while, due to rockslides while the other was passable today so we did make it down. I fear that the deluge expected over the weekend will cause landslides on the other road though. Well, at least we're stocked up and can ride it out.

It was quite a subdued Australia Day around here. The bottle shop seemed to be doing alright though...

And here we go again...

180mm overnight and another 90mm in the last three hours.
The newly dug trenches seem to be working nicely so there's no imminent danger of the house being flooded. No way down the mountain though so it looks like we're here for the weekend. Satellite TV (in other words all of our TV) is out as are landlines. Biocycle pump is completely shot so that'll need replacing when we can get somebody up here to do it next week.

Happy days!

Jesus! Sounds harsh mate! Watch out, with no TV or anything to entertain her, SMF will be making natural demands on you* !

How do you access Internet? Obviously not through the same channels as your cable TV . . .

Thanks Lo. They won't evacuate us as a.) we're not in imminent danger and b.) there's nowhere to evacuate us to! They couldn't even land a helicopter up here...

A big heap of Queensland is flooding again (and some is still flooded from last weekend or so) - so is quite a bit of the top of NSW. Sean said he (and family) lives in the area of Springbrook Mountains. That's near the border of NSW and Qld, but I'm not sure if it's in the areas that are wearing it at the moment.
And I've forgotten where Aardvaark said he lived - I know Sean said above that he was missing the worst of it this time, but that was last week, and the floods are spread and in a couple of different arears etc this week.

So again ... hoping everything stays okay for you both (and families) :-)

Thanks both. We should both be okay this time. The worst affected areas are further inland in and around Roma.
