This morning, for no particular reason, I ran the diagnostic program on my laptop. There was a message that said I should remove one file because it could be dangerous. So I did.
Now I can't start up the damn computer. When it gets to the place where I enter my password to log in the screen is frozen. The cursor won't move. Nothing moves.
So I started up from the Windows 7 disc and tried a system restore about 6 times trying different restore points. Each time it ended with a message that said it didn't work. One of the choices when starting up from the disc is to test the memory, so I did and it said it is okay.
Prior to this I had no problems or even a hint of problems. It seems that by checking for problems when I didn't have a problem I caused a problem.
Is there a repair disc of some sort I can buy or should I take the laptop outside and shoot it?
If there is a program I can buy that might fix it, what is it?
I do have a few things I'd prefer not to lose.
Shit.

Using the Windows disc, you should be able to do a repair installation that doesn't wipe the hard drive.
Re: #@#&^ing Windoze 7!!
That's what I had hoped. But the Windows disc doesn't do the repair. It runs for a while and then gives me a message that the repair attempt didn't work.
I don't know how or when but I think I got a killer virus.
I went out and bought a "System Mechanic" disc and the computer doesn't even recognize it.
It gives me a strange message about a free program from 2004 and some other stupid shit.
I think I'm screwed.
My Windoze system has been seriously compromised.
I think It's gonna die.
I'm glad I have my iMac. It's the only way I have of communicating on the internet at this time - other than my iPod Touch.

Take it to a menders and let them worry about it, that's what I always do when I screw up our computer.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.
