Well, not quite, since the vast majority of the Yid Army isn't actually even remotely Jewish.

However, among the Jewish soccer fans I know here in the U.S., they all find it rather endearing and most have Spurs T-shirts and scarves and such.

On the one hand I agree, but on the other hand . . . pretty clever.

I just found out that the cook at my favorite local eatery is a white supremacist/Nazi sympathizer - on the day that Germany won the World Cup, he was fashioning swastikas on pizzas ordered by customers in the adjoining bar.

Meanwhile, his GF who owns the kitchen where he works, is Puerto Rican.

There are none so blind as those who will Nazi. - Yup!

Good idea, Guin. :)

Other teams can just use the team location and leave "Redskins" out of all official communications, game broadcasts &c.

IT'S A START

Post by RayThom »

"... CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus said that the network hadn’t talked to announcing teams about using the name during broadcasts, but he indicated that during the upcoming season individual announcers and production teams could make their own decisions about whether to say it, and that the network is cognizant of the ongoing controversy..."

http://thinkprogress.org/sports/2014/07 ... is-season/

Eventually, and with very little effort, the problem will fix itself especially if the CBS announcers kick off the NFL season suppressing the slur before it reaches their lips. Hey, the "Fuck" word is one of the most widely used words in the English language yet it is rarely used in "polite society" or on broadcast TV or radio. The Redskin slur should be just as easy to recognize and control before it is spoken. A little behavior modification is all it takes.

I'm betting Snyder will be announcing a name change contest even before this season is over.

A type of "shunning". The rest of the NFL would be shunning the name "Redskins"; good idea. Very appropriate reaction.

Shunning
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shunning can be the act of social rejection, or emotional distance. In a religious context, shunning is a formal decision by a denomination or a congregation to cease interaction with an individual or a group, and follows a particular set of rules. It differs from, but may be associated with, excommunication.

Social rejection occurs when a person or group deliberately avoids association with, and habitually keeps away from an individual or group. This can be a formal decision by a group, or a less formal group action which will spread to all members of the group as a form of solidarity. It is a sanction against association, often associated with religious groups and other tightly knit organizations and communities. Targets of shunning can include persons who have been labeled as apostates, whistleblowers, dissidents, strikebreakers, or anyone the group perceives as a threat or source of conflict. Social rejection has been established to cause psychological damage and has been categorized as torture.[1] Mental rejection is a more individual action, where a person subconsciously or willfully ignores an idea, or a set of information related to a particular viewpoint. Some groups are made up of people who shun the same ideas.[2]

Social rejection was and is a punishment used by many customary legal systems. Such sanctions include the ostracism of ancient Athens and the still-used kasepekang in Balinese society.

it will work so long as the contract with CBS doesn't require the announcers to make prominent use of the teams' trademarks. If it doesn't, I am surprised, as there is a lot of money tied up in that intellectual property, and a concerted shunning by the broadcasters having the exclusive right to show the games could strongly erode that amount, but who knows what it says. Likewise NFL regs may have something to say about other teams refusing to use the name, but again. who knows?

Of course, the public and the general media can always do what they want.

I recall in NJ, the media often refused to use the name Brendan Byrne Arena for the venue where the Nets and devils played (partly in response to public outcry against naming it for a politician who was still alive and in office only a short time before. It lasted for a while. Eventually the name changed when the arena was fixed up, but that was a monetary decision alone as naming rights were given to the highest bidder.

I bet the NFL has never thought to mention it before. I bet they're home free on the shunning.
