Louisiana as most of the south tends to be wet and green, however the climate is not as moderate as it appears on the chart. We have at times had some extreme variations of temperature and rain fall.

I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

Gob, the dangers in your beautiful country wouldn’t stop me from visiting if I ever had the opportunity. However, I would try to be cautious and use common sense. By the way, I would feel safer in your country than I would in many large cities in the US and all third world countries.

The bigest snakes we get around here are Eastern Browns.
Image
These can grow up to 1.5m or 5 feet, have an agressive nature and are in the top 4 for their venom.

Red Belly Blacks are smaller and a lot less dangerous but sit give a nasty bite.
Image

Carpet Pythons are safe for people but at 4m or 12 feet will make short work of chooks and any small animals they get a tast for.
Image

we also get Gray snakes they are small and can be fun to keep. Down side their bite isnt nice and can put an adult in hospital.
(sorry couldn't find a good picture to show you)

Lucky for us the worst of the flooding is 300Kms north of here. I have a mate who has been cut off weeks and a couple near Kingaroy who we haven't heard from since the beginning.

We don't need any more rain right now. This is the drive way. Only took 3 hours to get the 4X4 out.

You know it is a real shame that there is not some way you all can capture this water and prevent it from running off into the ocean. It is a just a matter time before you will be praying for rain.

Well I do have two dams the top one is only a third the size of the back one and we put two 10.000 gal tanks in plus the 2000gal tank in the garden. All the tanks are overflowing and the pool has had so much water there's no chems left in it. Now it is green again.

Can't do much more and yes sooner or later we will be running low again.
It's all fun in the great southern land

Rain puts So. Calif. at risk of mudslides

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- More than a foot of rain has drenched Southern California in December, increasing the chance of dangerous mudslides this winter, officials say.

The month has been the wettest December since 1889, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.
Normally, January and February are the wettest months in the region.

Bob Spencer, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, said the danger of landslides can persist for a long time after the rain stops. He said much of the area is completely saturated.

"It gets to the point where the water that's falling is no longer even going into the ground -- it's just skipping off the ground," he said. "A lot of residents are under the false impression that once the sun comes out, everything is fine. That's not the case. The soil beneath the surface can take months to completely dry out."

Douglas Morton of the U.S. Geological Survey said the greatest danger is in areas that have recently been burned over by wildfires. On steep hillsides with no vegetation, almost any rain can cause a slide, while on brush-covered hillsides it takes about 10 inches.

Ardy, how do you think this would go over in the state of Queensland? In the areas that have flooding up to the eves, move the people to higher ground, dam the area with levees and convert them to reservoirs. The next time this happens you all will have a fresh water lake the size of France. That would be enough water to last yall awhile, right?

BTW, whatever happen to the great Darby River water basin scheme?

Darby River scheme or did you mean the Great Darby River scam?
Lots of words spoken by people that don't live with the problem and if it involved a dam better off asking the Greenies.
That is a great idea only the Green party would stop the project even starting.

A dam might flood areas used by animals or the historical sights even the cain toads would be afected. What about the wild life that would lose their home and not to mention the animals or the small wiglly things that live in the soil, they would die if we built a dam.

You have just given me an idea. we should wait till all the water reseeds and move all the greenies and the Green party into Rocky. Built a wall around the city so they can live safe knowing all the wild life in the area is safely watched over. then the next big flood we are free of the hole bleeding lot of them

Thank you liberty you may have saved this country
