The judgment about how someone drinks coffee is ridiculous and childish. Drink what you like and who gives a crap what anyone thinks. I'm certainly not changing my preferences.

Yep, that's about the size of it. Personally I love strong, black coffee, but will occasionally drink a latte--I never use a sugar or sweetener, I swore off that years ago. My parents both liked milk/cream and sugar in their coffee (my grandparents as well), and when I started drinking it (at around 6 or 7) is was pretty light and sweet, which changed over the years.

and BB, I forgot about Chase and Sanborn, but my parents drank either that or Chock Full of Nuts, except when they went to A&P and bought Red Circle Coffee (fresh ground at the store), but that was more of a luxury. Actually, as I recall, A&P had 3 types of bean coffee in varying roasts--8 o'clock was the lightest, red circle was a medium roast, and bokar was the darkest roast (I presume they were all from the same company). You could have it ground to whatever you chose, but my parents always used a percolator (a coarser grind) and may grandmother used drip (a finer grind)--I recall the grinder could even produce a Turkish grind (which I found out in my later years was for an espresso type coffee where you drink the grounds--usually served as Turkish or Greek coffee depending on the restaurant or ethnicity of the household). So you can see, "gourmet" coffee is not all that new.

Chock Full 'O Nuts is about the only coffee in a can that I think is actually really decent - but it still has to be brewed strong.

When I first drank coffee I used cream and sugar because the coffee was shit - that's still the case at most greasy spoon diners, the coffee is only tolerable adulterated. But I agree that really good coffee or espresso is perfect unadulterated, although every now and then I enjoyed the addition of flavor shots - but I always had to request half or even less of the usual amount, as the usual results in a cloyingly sweet drink that masks all of the coffee's robust goodness.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

A single shot of espresso is the perfect finish to a good lunch. It leaves a good aftertaste and the bit of caffeine counteracts the after-lunch drowsyness.

Have another cup, rube.

It's drowsiness, I believe.

When you remember everything, it's kind of like reverse Alzheimers...

It's both a blessing and a curse... :?

(Though that's not a fair analogy, because there's obviously no "blessing" involved with Alzheimer's... )

I'm a fellow sufferer, the more trivial or non-consequential, the more it sticks with me. "The best part of waking up, is Folgers in your cup"

That creeps me out. Even worse the box contains the special holiday assortment of Durex.

I see no more 'incest' in that commercial than I see Satanism in the 'Harry Potter' books.

I saw a while back a spoof on this ad where the parents confronted the kids and were throwing the brother out --"We sent you to Africa for a reason!" ... "No, he's my present this year!", etc. I'm sure it's still available online but I haven't looked for it.

Durex could use this. "Durex condoms. When you absolutely, positively cannot afford to get pregnant."

Thanks for that complement. Actually, I never thought twice about that ad until I read something in the paper that people were condemning it for depicting incest; and if you look at it with that in mind, it can be pretty entertaining.

For when you've only got time for one cup —

NOTE:  This is actually the water tower located in Stanton Iowa, the birthplace and hometown of Virginia Christine, who is best remembered as Folger's Coffee spokesperson 'Mrs. Olson'.  Erected in 2000, it was intended to replace the original water tower (see below) built in 1921 and redecorated in 1970 as part of the town's centennial celebration; the old tower was decommissioned but was left standing as a tourist attraction.  When it became apparent that it was too costly to leave it standing empty some 90 feet in the air, however, the original (and now non-working) tower was brought down to ground level in 2015 and now stands on the grounds of the Stanton Historical Society.
Incidentally — the cup, which is capable of storing 150,000 gallons of water, dwarfs the pot, which had a capacity of 'only' 50,000 gallons of H2O (or 800,000 cups of coffee).
