Gee-zeus! I won't even leave my zip code to go to my office! I was mad when we moved, 'cause even though it's the same distance, now I have to go through THREE traffic lights instead of just one!

I've always capped my commute at around 50 miles, and most of the time it was in the 30 - 35 mile range, which I considered drivable. I would have considered longer commutes if public transportation was available, but driving more than 50, let alone 100, miles each way is pretty crazy IMHO.

I did almost 90 one way for almost 2 years unemployment gave me a net raise after being laid off of that job. I have known more than a few that maintain a local apartment or trailer for work yet live 100+ miles away
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Well that's the problem--you have to do what you need to for work. Indeed, one of the stated reasons for the NJ Mount Laurel Housing decision (which required that all towns provide for low and moderate income housing) was that many jobs relocated from the inner cities to the suburbs (and the townspeople enjoyed the benefit of a big ratable as part of the tax base) yet most who worked there could not afford to live locally. Not that the implementation worked out that well, but the judge made a pretty compelling case in the opinion.

I did a long commute for about 6 years. Not quite 60 miles for a while, then 40 each way. Now, I do about 20 each way, my wife does about the same.

Friend's wife does almost 70 each way & had for over 15 years. (Which is probably why her Crown Victoria had 416,000 miles on it.)

My longest commute was 15 minutes. Mind you that was pretty scenic so I didn't mind.
