Stock is 8.5:1 with an "open chamber" type head. The head I have on it is "closed chamber" and closer to 10:1.

The big gun around here is Quik Trip. I was surprised to see that they are in the SE US now. (Are they in your area?) They are headquartered in Tulsa where they were a dime more than they were here on 4/15 when I was there to celebrate my birthday with all four of my sisters. One of them has a BD on the 15th, and two live in that area along with various nieces and neice's kids.

QT is now at $2.699 here. I filled at Sam's on Saturday at $2.549.

I just paid $3.75 per gallon for regular but I'm in the same bay area as Dale so it's a common price around here.

And let us not forget our buddy, rubato.

He lives kinda near here, but if I recall correctly.............he doesn't care if gas goes up to over $7 per gallon.

He sez it's too cheap now.

That's a great incentive to keep working.

Without the work you can't get gas... with out the gas you can't get to work.

What a conundrum.

He doesn't care. He's affluent... :P

ETA: I saw at a Shell station that it's $4.05 per gallon for the high octane gas.

$4.06 at our local 76, ($3.86 for the cheapest option)

I was going to say that we here in the Bay Area have the "honor" of having the highest gas prices in the continental US, but then I discovered that I was being too modest:

But some relief may be on the way:
Signatures submitted for state gas tax repeal

NORWALK, Calif. --
A fight to repeal the state gas tax hike that went into effect last November could be on its way to the ballot box.

Supporters of the gas tax repeal effort say they've gathered more than 940,000 signatures statewide - surpassing the requirement of 584,000 signatures to get the measure on the November ballot.

The initiative would repeal SB 1 - the vehicle fee and gas tax signed into law last year by Gov. Jerry Brown.
"The voters of this state are going to get a chance to get rid of this tax in November," said John Cox, a state Republican gubernatorial candidate and chairman of Give Voters a Voice, the gas-tax repeal effort.

Cox helped file more than 200,000 signatures Monday afternoon at the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters in Norwalk. The remainder are being turned over to officials in seven counties Monday and Tuesday to be validated.

Bear in mind that this latest round of tax increases was on top of what were already among the highest gas taxes in the country...

Regarding Gas taxes. Where does the money go and how are hybrid and electric cars taxed in your state? Over here our roads are a third world hell because no one wants to pay for the upkeep of our roads

CP--I have to agree; gas tax is one of the best ways to pay for road upkeep and maintenance as it spreads the cost over all those using the roads, visitors and residents alike (and commercial users , like trucks, pay use taxes because of the additional wear and tear as well). Using it to supplement mass transit to reduce high traffic volume also makes sense.

However with the advent and proliferation of electric and hybrid vehicles makes a growing segment of automobiles that in fact do not pay thier share of road upkeep that makes the gas tax model more and more unsustainable as they become more and more prevalent.

Yes, if they become very prevalent, we will have to reconsider the way to pay for roads.

What is the threshold you propose? Already advancements in fuel efficiency means less for road budgets. How long do You allow an ever growing group to take advantage of a service while evading paying for its upkeep?

threshold? I honestly haven't thought about it, so I don't know. As for getting revenue, perhaps we could tax the charging equipment (possible based on use)?

For the time being I would consider the lack of tax an additional incentive since all-electric vehicles are better for the environment and thus benefit everyone.

You could do it via annual car registration fees. All electric vehicles could pay an additional fee to cover road maintenance and hybrids would pay something intermediate.

No, electric vehicles only transfer the air pollution from the tailpipe to the power plant.

Local price Cdn$1.40/L, or about US$4.15/U.S. gallon. Now there's something a U.S. president has never been able to do before, bring near parity in gasoline pricing between Canada and the U.S.

Sure, but what about out of state users? Trucks pay road use tax in many states, but collecting that could be pretty unwieldy for private autos.
