He did a concert in San Francisco last December. The review I read said that a doctor certified that Leonard's heart was beating prior to the show and some people said that his lips moved when he spoke.Lord Jim wrote:Really? How can you tell?Leonard Cohen's act might make him look dead, but he is still alive.

Come on, that must have been an optical illusion....some people said that his lips moved when he spoke.

I mean; Dear Rufarto~` Miles asked a simple question there. And Scooter answered it.
There was no reason for that snipe at Miles. Seriously. Does the individual need validation of his Superior income that does not equate into a socially viable person?
Or has he not reached his "Be a dick" quota for the month?
Whatever. I think that the individual [meaning you Rufarto , because you were definately passing some gas there, were out of line]... may need to rethink your response to Miles.
Just saying.
Or you could carry on with that superior attitude (granted by what? income?! Inbreeding. 'blue blood'?) Fuck off@

Oh, and on topic: I love Lenonardo Cohen!@ He is so spicy! *
*That would the opposite of bland... that is the legacy of the man - the legend - that is Mr. Cohen.

Jeeeeez,
C'mon Timster...
Rufarto?
You can do better than that.
And I don't see anything wrong with rubato's post. I saw it as an attempt at humor.
Maybe I missed some past 'sniping' between rubato & Miles?
But I doubt very much that Miles would ever get involved in a sniping match.

re-posted from another thread:
Leonard Cohen's voice belongs in a pathology course on the effects of smoking and his near-total lack of musicianship ought to have barred him forever from the airwaves but, holy crap, he did write a few very good songs and does get them over even with some really profound disabilities.
Neil Young's voice is something to write home about only if the folks at home are leading lives deprived of anguish and horror but, goddamn, hes a great musician and even singer just the same. His version of "imagine" for the 9-11 benefit is shocking in its nakedness and power because of the way his voice cracks and fails. Wow.
Both of these are examples of what was really good about the 1960s. People believed that they could and followed through on it. Courage leads.

Tim I stopped reading the rube's posts nearly a year ago (I can easily see from the titles of the threads he starts and the quotes from his posts I see others post that I sure ain't missed anything) but I have to say that in this instance I agree with Joe; I recognize that quote of his you posted as indeed being one of his lame attempts at humor.
I'm not surprised you missed it ; given the fact that it's not at all funny. Humor is not something rube does very often, (intentional humor, anyway) so he doesn't get much practice. As a result his attempts are always clumsy and (reflecting his persona) generally mean spirited. Because mean spirited is what he "does" it's tough to really tell the difference between when he's just being his usual gratuitously insulting and mean spirited self, and when he is attempting to parody his gratuitously insulting and mean spirited self in an extremely weak attempt at humor. (He'd probably be better off if he didn't even bother to try.)
In this case, I'm pretty sure it's the latter.

Changing the subject? "Both of these are examples of what was really good about the 1960s. People believed that they could and followed through on it. Courage leads."
And cowardice changes the subject.
I am underwhelmed by the fact of your response. However, even despite Joe's rescue of sorts... you still don't see the need to retract your abrasive and uncalled for response to Miles?
Telling that. Say what you will to me. But that was some persnickety bullshit there.
Try again. I may not, but Miles deserves better treatment. Humor or not, it came off as condescending as hell.
Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Re: Whats up All people

An international jury including Stephen Fry (an awful woofter but great taste in music) awarded Leonard Cohen the Glenn Gould prize. He is the ninth winner since 1987:
2011 Leonard Cohen
2008 José Antonio Abreu
2005 André Previn
2002 Pierre Boulez
1999 Yo-Yo Ma
1996 Toru Takemitsu
1993 Oscar Peterson
1990 Yehudi Menuhin
1987 R. Murray Schafer
For four decades, Leonard Cohen has been one of the most important and influential songwriters of our time, relentlessly examining the central issues in human experience, and reporting with passion, insight and wisdom. His body of work is a reflection of the zeitgeist of the late 20th century and beyond. His songs are works of great poetic depth and profound emotional force, and set new standards for quality, range and seriousness in pop music. Artists and music-lovers alike are drawn to the dignity, ambition and sheer power of his songs.

Re: Whats up All people
That's fairly garbled Gen'l, but I assume you're referring to Fry's portrayal of Jeeves in the Jeeves and Wooster series that he did with Hugh Laurie...An international jury including Stephen Fry (an awful woofter but great taste in music)
Unfortunately you've got it wrong ways 'round...
His portrayal of Reginald Jeeves was brilliant....
But apparently his taste in music is non-existent....
Tiny Tim was more "influential" than Mumbles and William Hung is more important...For four decades, Leonard Cohen has been one of the most important and influential songwriters of our time,
This fellow could come up with better, less trite, and more poignant lyrics...:

Jim, a "woofter" is a gaymosexual person.

Re: Whats up All people
gaymosexual???

Re: Whats up All people
Ahh, thank you for that...that clears that up...Jim, a "woofter" is a gaymosexual person.
I was familiar with the term "poofter", but not "woofter"....(and given the closeness of that word to the Jeeves and Wooster series...you can imagine my confusion....)
That's one of the things I've always liked about participating in a board like this....
It's so educational....

Brit slang, a combination of "gay" and "homosexual", not derogatory. (I hope)Scooter wrote:gaymosexual???
