If You Could Go Back To Any Time In History...
Re: If You Could Go Back To Any Time In History...
If I could go to any time in history I would go forward.
50 years, maybe 100.
I want to see how it all turns out. What are the surprises? The disappointments? The achievements in science.

Mine is still the most interesting answer to that question.
For an intelligent being anyway.

I don't think you've quite grasped the meaning of the word 'history' Rooby...
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

ROTFLMFFAO!!!!
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

rubato has rare moments of comic genius.
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

You would surely need to use an industrial strength diaphragm for that kind of experience.

You and the Adamses are, of course, quite welcome, Guinevere.
Let's see. That makes you, me, Tom, John, Abigail, John Quincy, Louisa, and -- perhaps to Tom's chagrin -- Sally. We should bring Ben along. And maybe some others.
We're going to need a bus.
A magic bus ....

Look, the first rule of time travel is ALWAYS "kill Hitller."
But for me, New York, 1927. Maybe 1938.

Sorry, Sue U, but the rules have already been set:
Lord Jim wrote:A valid question...Are we talking about only as an observer, or would there be a chance of changing things by my presence? If the latter, I wouldn't want to go.
Observer status only...
No interference with the time line...

Re: If You Could Go Back To Any Time In History...
Assuming that I could not be injured or killed (but am a somewhat amorphous observer), then I'd like to go back to the start of the American Civil War and visit every interesting moment. My time machine would have multiple re-entry visas.
I wonder whose life I would actually choose to live were that possible - whether it be a real person or fictional character? I'm rather afraid that Flashman has definite attractions - shameful of me really but there it is. At least he meets Meade in the book I'm writing (doomed never to see publication sadly)

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

I am STUNNED, gobsmacked I tell you to see that Meade would choose that era. I am sure many join me in my shocked state.

All bullshit aside, there is no better time to live than right now.

Dave, Dave, are you feeling ok? That's pretty much exactly what I said . . . .

I'd go back to November of 2003 when we were packing to move to our new house. This way, I could observe the packing process and figure out what the hell happened to that laser level I cannot seem to locate since then.

People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

I do not own a cell phone. I have never owned a cell phone (except that for a while, I paid, as a gift, for a cell phone used by someone else).dgs49 wrote:All bullshit aside, there is no better time to live than right now.

I do not own an ipod. I have never used an ipod. I cannot be certain that I have ever even seen an ipod -- although I assume that I have, because I have been told that they are ubiquitous -- because I am not certain what an ipod looks like.
But I do like electricity, antibiotics, and cars.
Anyway, the original question was about a time one would like to visit, not a time one would like to live in.
At least, that seems to me to be the self-evident import of this:
... then to come back to The Present ....

I suspect you grabbed it when you went back and that's where it's been all these years.eddieq wrote:I'd go back to November of 2003 when we were packing to move to our new house. Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: If You Could Go Back To Any Time In History...
Fuck. Then I'd go back, violate the rules of engagement and stop myself from taking it from me. Either that or I'd just label the box.
