Morrison looks far more sinister than Dry Dock...
It's going to get worse than that Guin....there were a gaggle of young (idiot) females wearing shirts with his face on them and protesting his innocence
He's going to get marriage proposals, (if he hasn't already)
I have very mixed feelings on this, but I think that on balance, it would have been best if this photo had not been chosen...(or if some sort of "split" photo had been chosen instead..there were less offensive ways to make the same point...)
I see the argument that Scoot makes about the article, and while I haven't read it yet, everyone I know who has, backs up the idea that it shows the anatomy of a killer...
(And it does say "monster" right there in the text of the cover...)
On the other hand, I can certainly see why folks (particularly those in the Boston area; who went through nearly a week of terroristic hell) would find it offensive for Dry Dock to be portrayed in a way that made him look like some sort of Teen Heart Throb from Tiger Beat Magazine....
(And I find our resident Mr. Compassion's characterization of those who find this objectionable as "whiners" to be frankly, appalling)

Re: On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone
Jim Morrison was just as amoral in his own way. Beautiful but with the complete self-involvement of a tapeworm. Not much of a "talent" musically either. And IMO no loss.
Life keeps showing us this lesson and whiners keep wanting to deny it. But if you don't accept it you are making yourself, and helping everyone else to be, vulnerable to self deception.

Most would disagree with you....rubato wrote: Not much of a "talent" musically either.
As the lead singer and lyricist for the Doors, Jim Morrison is one of the most legendary and influential figures in rock & roll history.
The disturbing, image-rich poeticism of Morrison's lyrics, perfectly supported by the Doors' swirling, eclectic psychedelic rock, have assured him continuing icon status, while his fondness for theatrical shock tactics and nihilistic angst have influenced countless imitators. Unlike other psychedelic artists, who tended to favor whimsy or mysticism, Morrison saw expansion of consciousness as a way of gaining access to the subconscious mind's dark, unacknowledged desires; his rampaging id dominated his songs with a lust for violence, sex, alcohol, drugs, self-destruction, anything forbidden for any reason by the authority of conservative middle America, and he tried to live out that lifestyle as best he could.
Some of Morrison's work has been criticized -- both during his lifetime and afterward -- as too melodramatic and calculatedly outrageous, but even at his most frustrating, Morrison's ideas have achieved a lasting resonance with newer generations as well as his initial fans, and his best material remains some of the most original and visionary rock music ever recorded.
I wonder who will think your passing a loss.rubato wrote:And IMO no loss.

Well, while that's true, it's not particularly impressive...Jim Morrison had more talent in the tip of his little finger that you do in your entire bloated carcass, rube.
Mortimer Snerd had more talent in the tip of his balsa wood nose than rube has in his entire bloated carcass...

Just to keep that straight...

Re: On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone
A Boston police photographer has been suspended from duty after releasing dramatic photos of the arrest of bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Sean Murphy, a tactical officer for the Massachusetts State Police, released the images to Boston Magazine after he became furious with a Rolling Stone cover photo he believed glamorised the Marathon bombing suspect.
The pictures, taken when Tsarnaev was captured on April 19, show the young man bloody, covered in dirt, with the red circle of a laser target trained on his forehead as he emerged from a dry-docked boat in a Watertown backyard.
"This guy is evil. This is the real Boston bomber. Not someone fluffed and buffed for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine," Sergeant Murphy said.
Advertisement Now, however, it appears Sergeant Murphy may be punished for making the photographs public.
Boston Magazine editor John Wolfson tweeted that Sergeant Murphy had been ‘‘relieved of duty’’ since releasing the photographs

The amount of projection, and unintentional self actualization in that is truly impressive...
"self deception"...really...
That's what I love about rube... he's a superb case study...

Re: On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone
This bizarre comment really deserves to be pointed out specifically:
Every time I think he has pushed the boundaries of the outermost limits of human stupidity just as far as they can go, I'll be damned if he doesn't come along and show that he can push them even further...
How mind bogglingly, toe curlingly, hair achingly stupid does a person have to be to see a moral equivalence between an emotionally troubled self destructive rock singer, and a murdering terrorist?

That's another thing I like about rube...Jim Morrison was just as amoral in his own way.

Re: On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone
It's too bad quad isn't around. We need someone who is an expert on the influence of Van Halen to tell us what we should think of Jim Morrison.
We can't go to rubato for that kind of information. His expertise is in making negative comments in order to get negative responses. That's because he is very happy when he gets attention of any kind.
I wonder why that is?
Regarding the current cover of the Rolling Stone. I wonder why they did that? They wouldn't want people talking about their magazine, would they?

That Jim Morrison and the Boston Bomber are/were equally amoral? I think not, that pretty boys can be bad boys too, maybe.
