I cannot emphasize enough to all the idiots out there that say "well why don't you just snap out of it and get over yourself." Wow now there is something I never wished for! (Pure sarcasm). Ok idiots PTSD is not a bacterial infection that you can take a 7-14 day Rx for and be back to normal again. No idiots, PTSD is an anxiety disorder that can and will render you incapable of every day tasks. No idiots, it doesn't mean that we are crazy, unintelligent people, some have the ability to work, and some do not. No idiots, we are not freaks of nature. No idiots, there is no pill, no magic wand, that can cure us, if there was we'd be standing in Line for as long as it took. No idiots, it is not contagious, otherwise we'd be sure to give it to your dumb assess. Yes idiots, we do love our families. Yes idiots, we would love to Sleep through the night. btw - until this thread I don't recall you ever talking about being beaten by your ex-husband, but didn't you imply earlier that it was common knowledge at CSB for nine years?

Did your ex physically abuse you during your entire marriage? How often?

I have a vague recollection of LoCa saying something about some incidence of physical abuse, (but I can't swear that I saw it on the board as opposed to her mentioning it in an off forum communication)

But I certainly do not remember her saying anything about the sort of ongoing abuse that would cause PTSD....

Nor until that post of hers a few minutes ago, can I recall her ever having before claimed that she suffered from it....

If this was indeed the cause of her erratic and self-destructive behavior around here, you would think she might have mentioned it at least once in the past several years....

You'd also think she'd be getting treatment for it...(since she can't even credibly claim it to be true without a professional diagnosis)

To mention it all of a sudden now, really just looks like something cooked up after the fact to try to create an excuse that doesn't involve any personal responsibility....

Being easily startled
Feeling tense or “on edge”

Hyperarousal symptoms are usually constant, instead of being triggered by things that remind one of the traumatic event. They can make the person feel stressed and angry. These symptoms may make it hard to do daily tasks, such as sleeping, eating, or concentrating.

It’s natural to have some of these symptoms after a dangerous event. Sometimes people have very serious symptoms that go away after a few weeks. This is called acute stress disorder, or ASD. When the symptoms last more than a few weeks and become an ongoing problem, they might be PTSD. Some people with PTSD don’t show any symptoms for weeks or months.

That seems like the exact opposite of dwelling incessantly on events that are reminders of the experience....

Seems to me if a person wants to out of the blue claim to be suffering from some sort of clinical condition that is supposed obviate them of personal responsibility for their behavior it would be a good idea for them to acquaint themselves with the symptoms first, to make sure their behavior matches the diagnosis....
