But, more importantly, I predict England to take the Ashes in a close fought series, possibly by the margin of one game.

Best of both worlds.
Re: Go Giants!
In the final series before the Ashes, Aus are getting mauled by India!
No matter who wins the Ashes series, my side won...
It's great being a "Waussie" (Welsh/Aussie.)VISAKHAPATNAM: Youngster Virat Kohli blasted his highest international score and Suresh Raina went berserk to lead India to a spectacular five-wicket victory that has left Australia winless with just one game remaining for the tour.
Kohli's 118 and Raina's 71 from 47 balls allowed India to chase down the tough target of 290 set by Australia, after captain Michael Clarke had earlier steered his team with a century.
Cameron White's brutal 89 not out from 49 balls at the end of Australia's innings, coupled with Clarke's fifth one-day century, was not enough.
The two teams' innings almost mirrored each other; they lost their openers cheaply, put together a long third-wicket partnership, produced a centurion and a blaster who caused carnage at the end.

The Giants pitching has been underrated this year. Australian translation: Lads have some good bowling, what!

I think it'll be even closer mate. I'm predicting a drawn series and so England retaining the Ashes.Gob wrote:But, more importantly, I predict England to take the Ashes in a close fought series, possibly by the margin of one game.

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

As a friend of mine said last night: "The only thing that would make this game better is an abscessed tooth."
GAH!
Re: Go Giants!
I just want the Rangers to put us (and the Yanks) out of our misery. Please.
Can you imagine a World Series more unwanted by MLB than Texas-San Fran? Only Texas-Cincinnati would be worse.

Now hold on there just a guldern cotton pickin' minute...Can you imagine a World Series more unwanted by MLB than Texas-San Fran? Only Texas-Cincinnati would be worse.
The Bay Area has a population in excess eight million...
The greatest market nightmare would probably be a Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians World Series....
Two teams located in central Ohio....
I don't have a lot of positive things to say for this burgh, but one thing I will say about it without reservation...
It's a classier place than Cincinnati....

Re: Go Giants!
I really want The Yankees to win the AL Crown...
Because if we finish off the Phillies, and go on to defeat The Texas Rangers in the World Series...
Then we'll always have to live with: "Well, you got there on a fluke. If the Rangers hadn't lucked in to knocking off The Yankees for you, you'd never have made it....
If, on the other hand, we beat The Yankees straight up, no one will ever be able to make that claim....

Jim, you are spot on with this!
Sweet revenge for the 1961 defeat of SF at Candlestick by the Yankees.

Re: Go Giants!
Only speaking for myself, Lo....
San Mateo, CA c. 1952 ....a life long Bay Area resident.
(with occasional forays into Los Angeles, San Diego and Seattle)
My dad took me to my first MLB game in 1961 when they were playing the Cardinals at Candlestick. I don't recall who won but actually seeing a baseball game LIVE and in COLOR was a mind-bending experience for a 9-year old kid. Later that year they were in the world series against the Yankees. From that moment on I was hooked.
I have been thru too damn many 'wait until next year' seasons and have supported these guys thru thick and thin.
This year its gotta be all the way!

Been a few years, but it was 1962. McCovey line drive and leaping catch by the second baseman to end it with men of base in the 7th game.dales wrote: Sweet revenge for the 1961 defeat of SF at Candlestick by the Yankees.
Re: Go Giants!
Yeah oldr, that would make a great slogan for the Convention and Visitors Bureau....Your claim to fame?
"Come To San Francisco...It's A Better Place To Visit Than Cincinnati! "
But coming back to the Giants...
I love this team...they're The Little Team That Could....
I read an article the other day where I discovered that of the eight current starters in the regular roster, only one of them, (Aubrey Huff) was starting at his position Opening Day....
It's highly unusual for a team to go through that kind of turn over in a season period, let alone gel into one of the best teams in the league...
But I have to say I don't feel great about today's game....
I hope I'm wrong, but my Leroy Jethro Gibbs gut feeling tells me the Phillies have one more win left in them....
