A Very Disgruntled Employee...
Re: A Very Disgruntled Employee...
if you look closely at rubes map you will see that there is no correlation such as he claims in a quote above the map
one instance is Delaware, which has open carry and where its easy to get guns, compared with Maryland which has much tighter laws
there is no pattern except that democratically controlled , and gun controlled, cities are the most dangerous

Apparently neither of you (Wesw or LJ) can read a graph or a map, because they demonstrate exactly what the articles claim they demonstrate But don't let your prejudices get in the way of your brains.Lord Jim wrote:Well now there's a shockaroo....if you look closely at rubes map you will see that there is no correlation such as he claims in a quote above the map

Re: A Very Disgruntled Employee...
No, that's certainly not true in the case of the map...(I haven't checked the others, I only checked the map after wes posted about it; I can't be bothered to wade through all the crap rube posts. Originally I scrolled past the post completely)because they demonstrate exactly what the articles claim they demonstrate
Look again....
Nevada has the "////" lines going thorough it that indicates that it has "at least one firearm law in place designed to protect children." (whatever the hell that means; sounds like a pretty subjective criteria) but it has a "death due to injury by firearms" (which is itself a pretty misleading criteria, since it includes suicides, which data I have posted several times shows that country-to-country has absolutely no correlation with firearm availability, and also includes bad guys that get shot, which is actually a good thing.) rate that is higher than numerous states shown as not having such laws.
Maine, Ohio, Vermont, and five other states without such laws have lower rates than seven states that do have them. And 15 that don't have them fall into the same category of death rates as seven that do have them.
Only in 11 states can a correlation between having these laws and having a better gun death rate be seen.

Posted before. Further proof. Having too many guns and lack of effective gun laws kills people. Kills policemen kills children kills everyone.

I am concerned that the bar on nutjob murderers has been raised considerably.
How can the next nut job possibly top the murder of people while they (the victims) are filming a news piece LIVE all the while filming it himself and posting it on the internet?

Re: A Very Disgruntled Employee...
Well since you are not in favor of restricting gun ownership to only the militia how about this. Target areas of high crime and out law guns in those areas and authorize and instruct the police to inspecting vehicles and individuals to insure that the streets in those areas ARE FREE OF GUNS. That would make a big difference in the homicide rate. What would be wrong with that? There are already laws that apply to only certain states?Sue U wrote:It's really pretty simple, Jim: Fewer guns = fewer gun crimes. This country averages more than one mass shooting a day, and more than 1,000 gun homicides a month, the overwhelming majority of which involve handguns.
But of course, there's nothing we can do about that.![]()

Fewer guns = fewer gun crimes.
That's just math.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

How about you get one hundred and fifty million more to agree and I will do the same and that way the task can be cut in half?

See, this is what happens when your copy of the Constitution only includes the Second Amendment.liberty wrote:Well since you are not in favor of restricting gun ownership to only the militia how about this. Re: A Very Disgruntled Employee...
America gun enthusiasts have again warned all countries with strong gun-control laws that they are in danger of oppression at any moment from a tyrannical government.
“I personally own several side-arms, two rifles, an AK-47, a cannon, and a tactical nuclear missile,” said NRA spokesperson Wayne Lepierre.
“And I don’t think it’s any coincidence that no US Government in my lifetime has become tyrannical.”
The Second Amendment to the US constitution allows for the right to bears arms as defence from Government tyranny.
“What you folks in countries with strick gun control need to realise is that the Government could march through your front door at any moment, sit on your sofa, drink your beer and watch your TV – and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
“Which is why you need a terrifying arsenal of firearms in a cupboard under the stairs at all times.”
It is understood that many Americans believe that David Cameron has the look of a tyrant about him and would never dream of living in such a country as the UK without the right to shoot him in the face.
Many in the UK have sympathy with the idea.
America is joined by Zimbabwe, Sudan, Iraq, and Syria in the list of countries with liberal gun laws who have all thankfully remained free from a tyrannical government.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

Re: A Very Disgruntled Employee...
Amen brother...we have to stop stop lying about what the data says.
And it's my desire to be accurate about what the data says that compels me to point out that this:
In no way supports this:
or this:States with tighter gun control laws have fewer gun-related deaths
unless you're color blind...When economist Richard Florida [Geez, Paul Krugman, Joseph Stiglitz, and now this garbanzo...is there something about the field of economics that seems to attract an unusually high percentage of stupid and/or dishonest people? The data would seem to suggest so.] took a look at gun deaths and other social indicators, he found that higher populations, more stress, more immigrants, and more mental illness didn't correlate with more gun deaths. But he did find one telling correlation: States with tighter gun control laws have fewer gun-related deaths.
When 39 out of 50 states show no "correlation" you ain't demonstrated "correlation"....(let alone causation...)

Here's some more data, drawn from the US Census Bureau:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_viole ... s_by_state
Some interesting stuff there...
This one looks at murder rates, and gun murder rates, (which is a much more intellectually honest way to evaluate this than the "gun deaths" standards which includes suicides that have been proven to have no correlation to the availability of guns) for the 50 states and DC...
In first place by a country mile is the District of Columbia, with a rate of 16.5 gun murders per 100,000...
DC also has by far the lowest percentage of gun ownership; 3.6%...
By contrast, Wyoming, with a gun ownership percentage of 59.7%, has one of the lowest gun murder rates per 100,000; .9%
California, with fairly strict gun laws, and only 21.3% gun ownership comes in at number 14 with a gun murder rate per 100,000 of 3.4%....
Worse than Texas, Virginia, Alabama, and a slew of other states with much higher gun ownership percentages...
The table is not an image so I can't post it; but if you follow the link you can sort the listings several different ways by column....
