If that's how you really feel... good luck with that. Just do it in the bathtub or outside in the garden -- maybe with a heavy duty trash bag wrapped around your head. Your survivors will thank you for it.

Oh, place you will nearby. It will make things much easier for everybody.

Wow... that's really planning ahead. However, I agree with you. Life after sixty really sucks big time. I just stick around because my daughter tells me I'm important to her. Kids -- they're so naive.

You sound refreshingly determined. Please take some selfies at graveside, just prior to carrying out the sweet release of death -- not after. Be sure to have the family post them in here. That would be so cool.

As the children sang in The Sound of Music:

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night...
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu...
Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu!...
So long, farewell, au revoir, auf wiedersehen
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye
goodbye -- Goodbye!
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye!

I’ve got a friend who tried that a couple of years ago; he’s now living in a nursing home with TBI and a pretty miserable quality of life.

Don’t risk a failed attempt with a firearm; a suicide bag and tank of helium from the party store is pretty much foolproof and painless.

eta: That’s my plan in the event of terminal illness diagnosis or when I determine, of sound mind, that my quality of life is no longer up to par.

Very sad, and somewhat creepy. On a positive note, this may give Jarlaxle something to consider for his sixtieth birthday celebration.

That is usually a case of insufficient caliber. I will use an elephant gun in .577 Nitro Express.

Consider the suicide bag out of respect for whomever finds your remains, then. I've seen in real life what a 'blown off head' suicide looks like - and it will haunt me forever. Or, go very deep into the woods so nobody finds you until you're a skeleton.

Has anyone else read the news about Kevin Spacey's decades-long pattern of sexual harassment? I knew he was gay, that was no big reveal - but it's really disappointing to learn he's one of the predator brethren.

Not to mention the cancellation of House of Cards, a favorite and an excellent program - but I do celebrate the strong response of Netflix, Amazon and other studios to the revelations of predators in their midst. Perhaps we ARE reaching a tipping point.

An old friend was an apartment building superintendent. I once help him clean up an ex-tenant's bedroom, hours after Homicide freed up the site. Blood and "head stuff" all over, and I couldn't help but get a faint metallic odor and taste.

Suicide may be painless but it's a bitch to clean up after.

OK for you; different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Now me?  I'll turn 63 four days after Thanksgiving; and then, two weeks later, I'll be reporting to the hospital to undergo something called a Mohs procedure to remove a basal cell carcinoma on my jaw.  I'm in no big rush to go and seek out the Grim Reaper; I plan on hanging around as long as I can and, when the sands in my life-timer have all run to the bottom, then HE can come looking for ME......

Or to quote the poet —
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

BB. Basal cell carcinoma is a skin cancer that's more annoying than fatal -- it's not metastasis. I had the Mohs procedure completed over four years ago -- on my right nostril -- and other than some temporary facial disfigurement and a load of bandages on my face for about three weeks it was nearly uneventful. I later even viewed the video of the procedure online. BTW... I was awake for the entire procedure, just loaded up with Novocaine.

Don't sweat it... you're not going to die unless your surgeon misses your jaw and stabs you in the carotid artery and lets you bleed to death. You'll live to be a hundred if it's in your genes.

Crazy, mixed-up way to determine longevity, genes are.

My dad only made 77 before an abdominal aneurysm got him; my mother, on the other hand, made it almost to 90... although she really went downhill physically — loss of balance, mobility, age-related macular degeneration, dementia, and possible onset of Alzheimer's — over her last ten years.   My sole living uncle (my dad's youngest brother) is 91 and hanging tough; and my mother's older sister is in her mid-90s, lives on her own in a senior high-rise, and is still in good health for her age.

Overall, my family's average seems to be around 80 or so, so I figure I've got maybe 15-20 years left.   I just hope that what I watched happen to my mother weren't the 'coming attractions' for my life.
