Well, what do you expect from us Anglo-Saxons?
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I'm actually probably going to watch the game today....

Better go out and pick up some No Doze...

It starts at 11:30 Pacific Time on ABC.....

The US just went down, 2-1 in over time...

The were down 1-0 early but scored to even it in the the second half...

Most of the game was deadly dull, even by soccer standards...not many serious shots on goal.....

But the overtime period was pretty good; the US really pushed and had a lot of opportunities, but things just didn't break their way....

Anyway on the plus side, I won't have to watch any more soccer games...

At one point one of the announcers actually said:

"The important thing is to score. The most difficult thing to do in soccer is score a goal."

Well golly gee wilikers, I really appreciate that blinding insight! And all this time I thought running down the field with nobody around you was the toughest thing to do....

Geesus if that's the level of knowledge about the sport one needs to have announce these games, I could do it....

And I thought US sports announcers were vacuous...

One irritating thing....

Unlike in US sports, the game clock goes up rather than down...this made it difficult to keep track of how much time was left, especially in the over time.

To make this even more difficult, the refs tacked on some extra time because of the way the Ghanian players kept dogging it when they fell down, and would take their sweet time getting up so they could try to eat time off the clock. That makes sense, but the refs never had the additional time posted on the clock, so nobody knew exactly how much time they had decided to add. They kept it a secret. One of them just checked his watch occasionally, and then eventually blew his whistle.

Weird....

He must have been commenting on the understanding a lot of American people like you were watching Jim.;)

I was rooting for Ghana! The home of Hedzoleh Soundz one of the first African bands I heard live and a big reason I came to love African music.
