Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Has the hind brain implant taken?
Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
OMG I believed it was bad, but I don't have any speakers at home...
Then the radio stations (plural, more than one) at work have been been playing excerpts all night, and I've never heard such vial rage outside of family fights after drunken binges. I thought you white-people were better than this.
I hope the GF had a restraining order in place before this, then his ass is grass!

And I thought all Hispanics ate tacos and smelled of grease.

No Jim, I also believe it is a crazy law, but it is the law and until it is change it should be followed to do other wise is to make the law a mockery.Lord Jim wrote: It has to be said that she made these tapes without Gibson's knowledge, which under California law makes them inadmissible in court. (An idiotic law in my opinion; especially when applied to domestic abuse cases. So long as the tape is examined thoroughly and found not to have been doctored, it should be admitted)
This man is very very sick, and very very dangerous. He should not be on the streets.
If Mel is an Australian citizen he could be deported, I understand that is am administrative action and not punitive.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

You keep him, we don't want the mad bugger back...

Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Well, I was saying, if she had a restraining order in place before this call than it is admissible, and she can get him arrested for violating it.
As it is, she can take this 'incidence' of harassment, et al, to court and get one.
The physical evidence of her teeth being broken is a biggie.

Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
I think he was born in the US and raised in Oz. He'll be a US citizen then in all likelihood.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Yes, he was born in NY and lived in the US until he was 12. To my knowledge he never renounced his US citizenship.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Hmmm, according to this source, the girlfriend has had a restraining order on Gibson since at least June 25th. Detectives were already investigating Mel Gibson on a possible domestic violence case, when these tapes were leaked. So, if Investigators are already using this as evidence, then it's starting to look like the tapes may be admissible in court.
Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Well, if he was born here, I guess we're stuck with him....Yes, he was born in NY and lived in the US until he was 12.
Had he been a naturalized citizen he could have been stripped of his citizenship and deported. (Theoretically, anyway)

Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Well, I also hear he's fleeing the country moving back to Oz, willingly.
Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
That wouldn't surprise me; maybe he figures that if he lays low and keeps his nose clean for a few years, he might be able to get work again, at least as a director, if not as an actor...Well, I also hear he's fleeing the country moving back to Oz, willingly.
I know he made a boatload of cash, (I believe he pocketed something like 200 million) from that movie about the death of Christ he made, as well as all the other money he's earned, but one of the things that comes through on the tapes is that he claiming to be in some sort of financial stress. Maybe that played a role in making him snap...I believe he's got something like seven kids with his first wife....(She has come to his defense btw)
Then again, he could have been making up or exaggerating his financial problems in order to not have to pay money to his girl friend....
I think it's interesting that as near as I can tell he has not said one single word about this publicly...No apology, no explanation, no "I was drunk", no nothing....
Maybe he figures if he doesn't say anything about it, the story will die more quickly....
But sooner or later he's going to have go out in public, and the first time he sees a reporter this is going to topic A....

Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
The admissibility of evidence is not related to what police may have been "already investigating" (except to the extent that police may have exceeded the bounds of a search warrant, which is not relevant here). Fundamentally, beyond basic relevance of the material, it is the reliability of the evidence and the manner of its collection that determine its admissibility. California apparently has specific rules with respect to recording telephone conversations in major crimes cases:loCAtek wrote:Hmmm, according to this source, the girlfriend has had a restraining order on Gibson since at least June 25th. http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs9-wrtp.htm#wt4California law does not allow tape recording of telephone calls unless all parties to the conversation consent (California Penal Code 632), or they are notified of the recording by a distinct "beep tone" warning (CPUC General Order 107-B(II)(A)(5)). However, tape recordings can legally be made if an individual or members of one's family are threatened with kidnapping, extortion, bribery or another felony involving violence. The person receiving the threats can make a tape recording without informing the other party. (California Penal Code 633.5)
Don't know if this particular incident would qualify for any of these, or whether the case is even subject to criminal prosecution in the ordinary course. But in the context of a civil proceeding in family court (and believe me, there is nothing civil about family court) for custody, child support, visitation, etc., such evidence may very well be ruled admissible for a variety of reasons under numerous "hearsay exceptions." Significantly in this case, once you get past the shouting and swearing, it appears Grigorieva is actually firming up the basis for a palimony claim, establishing her total dependence on Gibson and their agreement to forego her career in return for his support.
GAH!
Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Well then, it looks like we have a bingo, at least as far as the second tape is concerned....However, tape recordings can legally be made if an individual or members of one's family are threatened with kidnapping, extortion, bribery or another felony involving violence. The person receiving the threats can make a tape recording without informing the other party.
On that tape, he threatens to kill her twice, to assault her, and to burn down her house....
Those all sound like violent felonies to me....

Re: Mel Bids A Fond Farewell To His Career
Hardly call this a major crime, or does it being "sleb" related give it a higher ranking?Sue U wrote: California apparently has specific rules with respect to recording telephone conversations in major crimes cases:

And all this time I thought he was born beyond the Thunderdome somewhere. Though I've heard a woman or two expound on his nice derriere from Bravehart.
