They had the "Black Eye Peas " singing through autotune...

As close to utter shite as is possible without someone dropping a huge turd on the stage

Is that because of the autotune (and how did you know? were they using it to create that "machine voice" effect?)? Or is it because it was the Black Eyed Peas?

(I'm not a BEP fan, but as far as contemporary pop goes there is a whole lot worse getting a whole lot more airplay these days. But what kind of entertainment would you expect at such a middle-of-the-road mass-market advertising-driven event? Death metal? Eugene Chadbourne? Fer chrissakes, they had Paul McCartney there a few years ago; it doesn't get any more banal than that.)

I know some people who really liked the halftime show, and many others pan it. The only way to improve the halftime show is to treat the event like a football game and get rid of the music show, and have a regular halftime. Not that I would watch it (since I generally don't watch the halftime show now), but put the show before or after the game and allow the music act a fair amount of time to have a real performance instead of being a rushed side show everyone makes fun of. Both the football players and the music performers deserve better.

IMO they should just have the local high school (or college) marching band come in and do their thing. For the last four years we have made it a point to go down to the Univ of Maryland (daughters college) and attend at least one football game. I like the marching band playing at half time. At least they are into it.
While I agree the sound sucked, I have never heard good sound on broadcast TV, whether it's a pop group or the NY Philharmonic, and whether I use the TV speaker or my dolby surround sound. IMHO broadcast sound always sucks.

And as for bands, there have been halftimes using bands (and crap groups like "Up with People") that were far worse than this one; I recall one super Bowl during the 80s where the halftime consisted of an endless parade of floats representing countries of the world, while the band played some music from the country while its float went by; it seemed endless, and i do recall on announcer quipping "this is getting longer than the game".

I won 100$ on the football pool at work on a 3$ bet.

Cool.

I considered the bet an investment in social harmony and didn't even remember my numbers when they came up on the half-time score. People at work started congratulating me and that was what clued me in. Way fun. I only bet once or twice a year on this stuff because I don't actually give a ratzazz about the game.

Vice makes it better, oh yeah.

Why bother with a half time act (how long are your half times?) Don't most people go for a piss, a burger, and a few beers at half time?

Now THIS is how you do a half-time (or in this case pre-match) show...

(The fun really kicks in at about 2:30)

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Totally, I remember 'bout five years ago, I was leaving work, on Friday afternoon and the HR manager kept bugging me to bet on the last Super Bowl Square 'cause they had to fill in the card!

Fine! I finally said; upon which he told me each square bet. cost $25 bucks, damn!

I almost reneged on my deal, but resigned myself to my loss, since I'd already agree to it. <sigh>

...I didn't even watch the game.

Monday morning, I went to work as usual, and ... everybody was staring at me , as I walked in. WTF?

Finally, a co-worker whispered to me that I'd won; wha ...? Oh cool, what'd I win? $50- ... a hundred dollars?

Nope, my score numbers had matched all four quarters, and I'd won $1,000! Woo-Hoo!

The sound mixing was horrible, the entire show was a bizarre, disjointed sci-fi/SFX/disco thing, and none of them can actually SING! This actually managed to be worse than the embarassingly-bad Who show last year, and THAT is saying something.

At $25 a box you should have gotten $2500. Must have done that "satelitte boxes" thingy.

I did have tha happen to me back when the raiders (at the time the first wild card team to win the SB) beat the Redskins. I bought 2 (or was it three, $10) boxes and won every quarter. No satellites so my take home was the full pool at $1000.

As a big Who fan since I was a young pup back in 1966, I do have to admit they sucked last year. Roger Daltry's voice is done and not having Entwistle to hold it together hurts big time. of course the Who really died with Keith Moon GRHS
