The crash happened at The Clutha in Stockwell Street at 22:25.

Police Scotland confirmed their service helicopter had crashed. There have been multiple casualties but it is not known if anyone has died.

First Minister Alex Salmond said: "Given an incident of this scale we must all prepare ourselves for the likelihood of fatalities".

Images of the crash showed the dark blue helicopter on the roof with a yellow "POLICE" insignia on part of the wreckage.

A police spokesman said: "Police Scotland can confirm that the service helicopter crashed earlier this evening in Glasgow city centre.

"A major incident has been declared after the Eurocopter EC135 T2 - with a crew of three consisting of two police officers and a civilian pilot - came down on the roof of a pub in Stockwell Street at 10.25pm.

CNN was covering this live within just a few minutes of when it happened, and how they were covering it is kind of interesting...

A young Scottish woman who lives in an apartment directly overlooking the pub, called into CNN and thanks to modern technology became an instant network news international correspondent. She communicated over the net through her computer, providing live reporting of what happened and answering the anchor man's questions, and also turned her monitor to face out the window so she could provide live footage of the scene with her computer cam....

She became both the reporter and camera crew for the story from her apartment window with just her computer...

Glad to hear she's safe Daisy.
Four of the eight people who died when a police helicopter crashed into a busy Glasgow pub on Friday have been named.

Police Scotland confirmed the three helicopter crew were among the dead. They were pilot David Traill, 51, and Police Constables Kirsty Nelis, 36, and 43-year-old Tony Collins.

Gary Arthur, 48, from the Paisley area, has been named as among five people who died in The Clutha bar.

Police said they cannot rule out the possibility of more bodies being found.

Police Scotland Chief Constable Sir Stephen House said the force's helicopter crashed into the pub as it was returning from an earlier operation at about 22:25 on Friday.
