Looks like Justin is looking to become the next Lindsay Lohan...
Justin Bieber arrested on suspicion of DUI, drag racing

CNN) -- Pop star Justin Bieber was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and drag racing Thursday morning, a Miami Beach, Florida, police spokesman said.

Bieber was driving a yellow Lamborghini that police saw drag racing a Ferrari in a residential area of Miami Beach, police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said

Bieber showed "signs of impairment" and failed a field sobriety test, Hernandez told CNN. He was then taken into custody and booked on a drunken driving charge, he said.

Two SUVs "actually blocked the traffic at 26th and Pine Street so that they could race on Pine Street, almost making it like a makeshift race track," Hernandez said.

The Ferrari's driver, whom Hernandez called "an associate of Bieber," was also arrested on a drunken driving charge, he said. That person has not yet been publicly identified.

Bieber, 19, flew to Miami on Monday.

Another police department in the Miami area is investigating a report that some of its officers escorted Bieber's caravan between Miami strip clubs this week with authorization.

Opa-Locka Assistant City Manager David Chiverton told CNN affiliate WSVN-TV that "at some point the escort took them at least to two locations that we know of."

"The police administration had no knowledge of this escort, and it is not the norm for those things to occur without the chief and his administration authorizing such escorts," Chiverton told the TV station.

Thursday's incident marks the first time the teen singer has been arrested, although he is under investigation on allegations of egging his California neighbor's home.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies used a felony search warrant last week to raid Bieber's mansion in the felony vandalism investigation. They seized Bieber's iPhone and the security camera system, which detectives have been examining for clues about who tossed eggs over a fence that splattered onto the next-door house causing an estimated $20,000 in damages.

Bieber is having some issues

Deputies have also investigated reports by Bieber's neighbors that he raced his expensive sports car down the streets of the exclusive Oaks community of Calabasas, California, but no charges ever resulted.

One neighbor accused Bieber of spitting in his face during a heated confrontation last March. Deputies have responded to complaints about loud parties at Bieber's place.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office concluded it couldn't prove the spitting or speeding cases in court, so it declined to prosecute.

Prosecutors also rejected a misdemeanor battery complaint from a photographer who accused Bieber of attacking him in the parking lot of a Calabasas shopping center as he was taking photos of Bieber and his then-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, in May 2012.

"We didn't do this search warrant to send a message," Sheriff's Lt. David Thompson said last week. "That's not what we do, but we hope maybe that understanding the gravity of this will change some of the behavior."

Have you seen that street? It was asking for it.

Too much money and too much fame too young with no one around you respect to keep you grounded equals a train wreck...it's an old story...

I've never been a great admirer of Mr. Bieber's work, (Tati was never into him so I didn't have to really learn much about him; like his lawyer Ray Black said, if asked to name one of his songs I would have to "take The 5th") But since this broke into the news, I've done a little reading up on him...

Apparently his mother was only 17 when she became pregnant with him (she claims she came from a background of alcoholic and sexual abuse) and she's pretty much a hot mess herself...

His father was 19 when he was born, and while he and Bieber have a "relationship", he was never in the picture as a parent, and married another woman with whom he has two other kids...

It sounds strange to say that a guy who has so much going for him (he's living a teen boy's fantasy life; multi-millionaire at 19, nobody around to tell him what to do, girls falling all over him) really has so much going against him, but in this case that's probably true...

There doesn't appear to be anyone in his life who can play the role he desperately needs to have played...

I actually feel sorry for him...

I think in a lot of ways he's the male version of Miley Cyrus, trying to break out of the teeny bopper mode and be seen as an adult. So he hangs out with rappers, acts like a "grown up" bad boy, and comes off like a jerk. The real sad thing is, the more he distances himself from that teen image, the more he sabotages what career he has left. Who even remembers Lief Garret (except for that horrible "whatever happened to" series), or David Cassidy, Donnie, Osmond, etc. Some try to cater to the older crowd to make money, others do Dinner Theater and the occasional Branson show, but most fade into oblivion (of course there was Michael Jackson, but that's a very different story).

I'm not sure I agree with that...

Miley Cyrus may be kind of the exception. Despite her "bad girl" trashy public performances, I'm not aware of her getting into any serious legal or drug issues...

Cyrus was born into wealth with a show business father; that may actually have helped her avoid going over the cliff...

A better comparison might be Brittany Spears, (haven't seen much in the news about her lately) who like Bieber was raised in a lower class, relatively unstable home environment with nobody around to pull her back from the edge when she suddenly rocketed to fame and fortune...

Well Jim, given the company she keeps, I say give Cyrus time, but I can't argue about Brittany Spears (and there are many others). I just think a lot of these child pop stars struggle mightily to break out of that kiddie/Teeny bopper mode, often with disastrous results. Maybe having Billy Ray as a father may help Miley, but there are plenty of kids from wealthy families and/or famous parents who "go bad", so who knows.

Very very very few ever make the transition from teen pop idol into a longer-lasting adult career, and I don't expect that Justin Bieber will, either. The music industry is just not built that way, and it takes exceptional savvy and force of will -- not to mention a much broader set of skills -- to make a career in show-biz. The Disney brand has been the best thing that ever happened to extending the shelf-life of teen stardom, providing multiple media platforms and serious development for their stable of talent. But no one's going to be a Disney star at 30.

Britney Spears just won a Peoples Choice Award* and is currently encamped at Planet Hollywood in Vegas until September, where she's doing the "residency" show thing. You need to keep up, pal.

there have been a few, but a very few who still work/star for Disney at that age, but most are dumped or remove themselves. Face it, Disney has a clean cut youthful image to sell, and the company can be a hard master to work for by forcing people to keep that image. It's kind of like living in Leave it to Beaver your whole life--few could tolerate that.

I read in Rolling Stone that Bieber has given advice to Miley Cyrus on how to deal with fame. I expect that she will soon be throwing eggs at houses and racing away in a Lamborghini.

Yes, I must confess I really don't keep up with the dynamics of the "Peoples Choice Award" ...

(Its long been a point of personal pride with me that when People Magazine comes out with their annual "Most Fascinating People" list, I'm lucky if I've even heard of three or four of them...On the other hand, I can match up faces and names with about 80% of the United States Senate...not a particularly useful skill, but that's what I get for being a politics junkie... 8-) )

Very very very few ever make the transition from teen pop idol into a longer-lasting adult career,
The only one I can think of off hand was Francis Albert...and maybe Wayne Newton...he's made a ton of money in Vegas...*

*And no, I'm not old enough to have personal recollections of when either Old Blue Eyes or Wayne were teen idols... :P

Speaking of Justin Timberlake he seems to have handled his life fairly well. Still not a fan but he hasn't become a cautionary tale yet.

No, but he did make an otherwise dull super bowl halftime performance a bit interesting at the end, aiding in a wardrobe malfunction.

Oh, don't even get me started on them...

I got yet another card in the mail from those relentless SOBs yesterday...(Which both Tati and her mother found highly amusing...Kelly shouldn't laugh; they'll be after her in a couple of more years...they start their never ending pursuit when you turn 45...)

I cut it in half with a pair of pruning shears and burned it in the barbecue...

I've tried repeatedly to get off their mailing list, but that bunch has more reach than the NSA... :arg

Yep, every year on my birthday I get a card as well, and destroy it. Relentless doesn't even begin to describe what they are.

I think I succeeded, (temporarily anyway) in getting off the "birthday list" (what a wonderful annual "present" that was  ) until yesterday it had probably been a couple of years since I'd gotten any of their crap...

(And they've gotten cunning about it...the envelope and return address were very non descript, and didn't indicate who it was from...I opened it out of curiosity because it was addressed to me personally and I could tell it had a card in it...)

I've got one kid four years away from starting college, and another one getting ready to enter kindergarten...

Becoming a "retired person" ain't on my radar screen...

I wonder if sending them a letter or an email informing them that Mr. Lord Jim is deceased would finally get them to end their pitiless pursuit...

Probably not...

You probably have to be dead for at least 15 years before this crowd gives up going after you...
