L’Equipe, the French sports magazine, quoted on Friday an anonymous senior Russian coach who says Russia and the United States have set up a “proposed barter” to help each other at the Sochi Olympic figure skating events.
Because they are not in direct competition with each other in these events, the United States would help Russia win the team gold event, while Russia would reciprocate by supporting U.S. ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White win gold over defending Olympic champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the L’Equipe source said.
One more reason to be glad I won't be watching any of Putin's vanity fest.

The athletic competitions of the Olympics take place external to, and separate from, Putin's crude efforts at propaganda.
You seem to have forgotten the number of openly homosexual US representatives who agreed to go to the games.
Jesse Owens competed in the Berlin Olympics and no matter what propagandistic purpose Hitler had for those games Owen's nobility in victory undid them.

I like some of the events...
I like the ski jumping, the hockey, the luge runs...
Not a big fan of the ice dancing stuff...
And I still don't get that thing with the brooms and the over-sized air hockey puck...
What's that about...

Just watched the men's slope style. They look like cgi stunts... Amazing stuff, and is part of the qualification that they must be utterly beautiful too?

So we turned on the telly early in the AM here, and we've been watching the epic Women's Ice Hockey match-up between Canada and Switzerland...
At the moment the Moosehead Swillers are beating the Cuckoo Clock Makers 2-0....
This is actually the first time I've ever seen a women's ice hockey competition...
And I have to say, the speed and level of physicality is pretty much on a par with real men's ice hockey...
Though I have to say when it comes to Olympic female competition, I still prefer Beach Volleyball...
Would it be out of line to ask that the women hockey players play in bikinis?

Are you in the correct thread? Or are you just posting multiple lines of irrelevant idiocy for reasons only you know?
In other words: you are drooling again.

Your post is a tad puzzling Jarl. rubato's post made perfect sense and was in context with Scooter's remark about "Putin's vanity fest".

Scooter's position makes perfect sense -- if you think Russia should not have been chosen to host, you should boycott by not watching. If a sizeable number of our population follows course, then the advertisers take a bath and put pressure on NBC and the IOC to never make such a bad choice again. This hurts the entities that are at fault, without taking away the chance of the athletes who have trained many years for this opportunity and are not to blame for the bad choices of the poo-bahs.

Boring! Add bowling and the you have the Big Three, the Holy Trinity, of Beer Sports!
Besides, I loved the fact that one team in the finals in the last Frozen Olympics were a group of 40-50 something office ladies from Sweden who practiced curling during their lunch hour. Really takes you back to the true spirit of amateur competition, competition for the joy of it.

I have been known to stop channel surfing when I see a curling match on. are they called "matches" or something else?
It's interesting to see the strategy in blocking/knocking and stuff like that. While I won't spend hours on end watching nor is it edge of your seat action, there is much thought and execution going into each throw. Haven't figured that game out totally yet, but it is interesting in a chess match/bocce ball kind of way.

Snowboarder Torah Bright says she is ready to find another man who is “so hot that I can't help but rip his shirt off and make out”, while also revealing how her broken marriage with fellow snowboarder Jake Welch almost forced her to quit the sport. In a bizarre interview with a blogger from Esquire.com before leaving Russia earlier this week, the Sochi halfpipe silver medallist said she wants “a big man”. “I just want to have fun for now,” the 27-year-old said. “I want a guy so hot that I can't help but rip his shirt off and make out. But in the future I want a guy who knows what he wants and who can take care of me. I want a big man.”

It appears that the rumours were correct; completely inexplicable downgrades on Virtue and Moir's performance while Davis and White were given a pass on the most glaring of errors.
It's ice dancing, I know, not a discipline exactly famous for its objective judging, but they could have been a bit more subtle about it.
