TLC has given “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” the boot after a story surfaced on Thursday claiming June Shannon—aka Mama June—was dating a convicted child molester. Shannon reacted to the news in a video she posted on her daughter Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson's Facebook page.
"Just got a phone call this morning from TLC, and as of right now there will be no more production of the show," she said in the clip.
Shannon also used the opportunity to deny claims she was dating Mark McDaniel, a sex offender who was recently released from jail.
"The statement of me dating a sex offender is totally untrue," she said.
McDaniel, who is in his early 50s, was convicted on May 20, 2004 of aggravated child molestation. He registered as a sex offender in March 2014. Shannon wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday that she dated and dumped McDaniel 10 years ago.
“I would not ever ever ever put my kids in danger," she said in the video post.
TMZ reported McDaniel went to jail for molesting a relative of Shannon's. The site posted a photo of Shannon and McDaniel together, but Shannon insisted she has not seen him for more than 10 years and that the photo was faked. The cancellation, however, is real.
“TLC has cancelled the series 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately," a rep from TLC told FOX411. "Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children's ongoing comfort and well-being.”
Back in September, Shannon split from Honey Boo Boo’s father, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson. The two were never legally married, but they exchanged vows in May in front of Boo Boo and her three sisters. Shannon said in her video that the family is grateful for the fans they've had through the years. “We just want to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, the support we’ve had from our fans… This experience has been awesome to us. The girls have been able to do things that they would not normally be able to do.”
June Shannon herself has been criticized for her daughter's diet, which includes "Go Go Juice," a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew that contains as much caffeine as two cups of coffee. The drink is used to get her daughter ready for pageants. Shannon has responded to this criticism, saying. "There are far worse things...I could be giving her alcohol."
June Shannon has been praised by Mother Nature Network for her "keen business sense" with which she feeds her family on $80 a week by clipping copious coupons, playing bingo, exploiting roadkill, and acquiring child-support checks from each of her four children’s fathers.
There are that many blind mental defectives in Dixie?

The show is gone for good? What a loss to a network I have never had any interest in watching. Learning channel my ass.

I've seen this show when scanning the channel directory but never watched it. I refused to watch anything with a name like "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo". And from the picture here, I didn't miss anything.

If I'm not mistaken, they also have a show about midgets living together; I'm sure they say it was made to promote understanding, but from the commercials I saw it looks more like the exploitation films of the 30s.

In all fairness, back in the beginning TLC actually had a fair bit of educational programming.
I don't think they had good ratings then, though. The masses prefer to be stupefied.

This channel showed history (lite) once - no more:

Most of the cable channels have gotten worse over the years and replaced OK shows with trash/tabloid/reality ones, but TLC and Bravo are the worst examples IMHO.

I would add A&E to that list...
Long ago it was a decent channel, in recent years they've had two quality shows;
The Glades and
Longmire...
Last year they canceled
The Glades (even though it was their highest ratings drawing show) and now they've also canceled
Longmire (Which became their highest ratings show after they canceled
The Glades; but the good news is that
Longmire may be picked up by another network)
It's as though the Programming VP at A&E was thinking:
"How the hell did we wind up with quality shows on
this channel? That's not what we're about, that's not our brand. Let's cancel those bastards and order 20 more episodes of
Duck Dynasty and
Storage Wars..."

But there's still some quality and engaging programming on cable...
Mythbusters is a fantastic show, especially for kids...
It teaches a lot about physics and chemistry, but it does it in a very entertaining way...(plus they blow up a lot of stuff; what's not to like?)
Morgan Freeman's Through The Wormhole is also an excellent series...
And some of the trashy shows aren't that bad...(I hate to admit it, but I enjoy Finding Bigfoot...)
And the "Ancient Alien" stuff is at least amusing...
As I've commented on before, what really gets me is the "Redneckization" of so much of what's on channels that occasionally have decent programming...
It's an endless list; Hillbilly Moonshiners, Redneck Rockets, Swamp Men, Gator Boys, etc, etc, etc...
It's like somebody said, "Here's an idea. Let's go find some Deliverance types and make a reality show with them. The more tattoos and the fewer teeth the better. And 60 year old men with ZZ Top beards are the best..."
(The absolute worst of the worst of this "Genre" is The Call Of The Wildman... The show that answers the question, "What if Ernest T. Bass had his own television show?")
It's the modern day equivalent of the old circus Freak Show...

jim, I would be remiss if I didn t point out how rude your last remark was . what s the difference between swamp men and a show about the watermen of the Chesapeake or lobstermen and codfishermen of new England? they just catch different seafood. your characterization of the Scotch-Irish and the moonshiners show was also way off. the Appalachian people were a big part of creating this nation and our fierce independence.
you should actually watch those two shows I mentioned.
you ll learn more than you will watching chasing bigfoot....

Yes I know wes, and I apologize, and I know these types of folks are the salt of the earth and deserving of respect.
But even though I am a hard core Reagan Republican, and absolutely contemptuous of elitism, I can't escape the fact that I am personally well, a
little elitist...
Especially when it comes to the issue of
Hee-Haw Nation Television...
I'm certainly not a TV snob; I love
The Deadliest Catch, and I was also a fan of
Growing Up Gotti, and I even used to watch Anna Nicole's reality show...
But even though my southern roots are deep, I'm just not a big fan of Redneck TV...
I don't care much for NASCAR either...

They were true innovators. They were the first to discover that brothers can also be cousins

One of the stupidest things about these "reality" shows is not that they are the same as other shows but that each episode is the same as the last one. Catch a fish. Catch another fish. Catch another fish. That's three episodes. Rassel a gator. Rassel a gator. Rassel another gator. Three episodes of a different show. And In each one, inject artificial drama and enthusiasm as often as possible....
All redneck shows are crap

Gen'l, you're missing the interpersonal drama here...
The Deadliest Catch isn't about catching a bunch of crabs...
It's about the story of the interactions on The Cornelia Marie, The Northwestern, The Time Bandit, The Wizard...
Will that young punk head case Elliot Neese who couldn't catch crabs in a two dollar whore house, finally become successful?
Stay tuned...
Kelly teases me about this because I give her a hard time about watching "The Real Wives Of This, The Real Wives Of That..."
And she says "it's the same drama thing, but it's about guys on boats"...
Well exactly, and that's why it's
not the same thing...
Because it's about
guys..
On boats...
