Vote for Union
Vote for Union
On another thread there is an insurrection in progress; a cyber riot against the good and noble General, the Chief of our Grammar police. It is disguised as effort help the General find a hobby, but don’t be fooled it is in fact a rebellion against the General's attempt to maintain our grammatical union. Please help put down these rebels by voting to acknowledge the General as the chief of the grammar police.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.
Re: Vote for Union
Grammar Police are self-appointed directors of systematic grammatical dissection of other people's expressions followed by unsolicited corrective pontification.
Votes have no power over them. This thread topic is therefore a sham and quite possibly a shame.

Re: Vote for Union
I voted wrong, because I didn't read the thread first.
I'm 100% in support of the grammar policeman Meade.

Yrs,
Rubato
Re: Vote for Union
I will support him by continuing to write in an incorrect manner, thereby giving him something to police.
I wrote something earlier that I thought meade might malign. (alliteration!) I started with a thought in the present tense, continued in the past participle, then ended with another thought in the present tense. I wrote it that way purposely, as the slight change in parallelism seemed appropriate. I did, however, leave one glaring error for meade to ferret out. let s see if he finds it, or found it. I d better check....

Re: Vote for Union
I'm not voting. I think policing grammar in a forum like this is unnecessary, judgmental and condescending as hell (reserving, however, the right to poke occasional fun at humorous and/or regular misspellings).

Re: Vote for Union
I think though that I pretty much restrict myself to antagonizing LJ and Gob - at least as far as apostrophes are concerned. It's supposed to be humourous because it's certainly regular. Most of the time I don't bother to "police" all that's written here. NMJ and if nominated I shall not serve etc. I wear my badge (from LJ) with pride though. I hardly ever critique wesw's style of writing - just take the piss out of the content or the content out of the piss - whichever. I like to use too many of these - - -. And I have enjoyed being hoisted with my own petard from time to time. Makes the eyes water...

Will he agree NOT to wear a body cam?
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

Just in case there are any humor challenged sorts on the board...(and you know who you are...though most likely you wouldn't...what with being humor challenged...
)
Major General Meade is one of my very favorite posters around here...
And I do not take offense at his OCD driven need to engage in pointing out every tiny grammar mistake or typo I may make...
Any more than I take offense at his love for Cricket, or his cult-like devotion to Leonard Cohen...
It's important to differentiate "pity" from "offense"....

Re: Vote for Union
General, as your un-appointed campaign manger it is my pleasure to inform you that you have already won the election. All that is left now is for Gob, our leader, to close the poles and declare you grammar policeman elect and then of course select one of our lawyers to perform the swearing in ceremony.
I find it interesting that you managed to win this election without campaigning or making any political promises. Of course we know that political promises and real promises are not the same thing.
If you wish to push your margin of victory even higher suck up to Guin; she is very influential here and her endorsement could bring all the sheep into line.
