Here we go again . . .
Here we go again . . .
So, I'm scheduled for another major surgery next week. My incision herniated, so I have a giant midline incisional hernia repair scheduled.
My general surgeon is a young guy with his head stuffed full of new techniques; he and his partner in practice (another relatively young surgeon) are going to employ 'separation components technique' in repairing my hernia - cutting edge with promise of a good repair that won't blow out again in future, but a high risk of infection in the first days following surgery, so short-term I'll be enjoying up to a week in hospital as they monitor drains, etc.
My honey is going to lend me his laptop so I can forum post instead of watching boring daytime cable.
As per usual, because I believe in the power of positive thinking & prayer, I ask my Plan B friends to pray or send good 'vibes' to guide my surgeons' hands and wish for my speedy recovery.

Re: Here we go again . . .
Best wishes for a successful outcome and speedy recovery. A hospital is no place to be sick.
GAH!
Re: Here we go again . . .
All the best bsg.
I hope the surgery and week pass uneventfully and quickly.

Bah!

Re: Here we go again . . .
Best wishes, bsg!
For a lovely, cheery read, I heartily suggest (if you haven't already read it) A Year in Provence by Peter Mayne. I finished it last week, and just loved it!

All the best BSG, fingers crossed!

All the best BSG....
And, don't focus on the downside of being in the hospital for a week....(the tubes, the prodding and poking, etc.,)
Just think about all the great food !

When someone offers you “best wishes,” then along comes someone with “better wishes”, are the better ones better than the best ones?
Wishes and prayers are yours.
Wishes and prayers are yours.
A sufficiently copious dose of bombast drenched in verbose writing is lethal to the truth.

Good vibes comin' at ya bigskygal.
Re: Here we go again . . .
Good luck, best wishes. Be nice to the nurses and they will be extra nice to you.

I expect to go straight to hell...........at least I won't have to spend time making new friends.
Re: Here we go again . . .
I'm a bit nervous about another surgery, but overall my last hospital experience was great. Other than someone coming in the room every two hours to poke, prod, take temp/bp/pulse - you can't REST, for Pete's sake! - it was a fine place to be.
Our little hospital has only private rooms, and each one has a lovely view. The food was actually not half bad! But I quickly got bored with cable TV, so my sweetie is lending me his laptop so I can watch some things I have recorded - in particular, I am hoping to finally watch the John Adams series from HBO.
If there is wifi at the hospital, I really hope I will also be able to get caught up on reading here. This forum has been very active, and in recent months I have simply not had much time to read or post - so I have missed out on a lot! I know there will be lots to laugh at, which is exactly the kind of reading I'll need to keep my spirits up for the healing process.

Ow ow ow ow ow! Sorry to hear the tough news. When I had back surgery they gave me both percocet and a glass of wine with lunch and dinner! Really takes the edge off. Careful about the opiates, they turn peristalsis right off with remarkable consequences.*
One of the odd effects was the stream of priests and ministers coming by to 'minister' to me while I was laid up pre- and post surgery. I always let them pray since it seemed to make them happy. AND I found out what Franciscan priests do for pockets!

I usually whine pathetically until my sweetie lays on a little extra TLC. I recommend it.

So what DO they do for pockets? Inquiring minds want to know!AND I found out what Franciscan priests do for pockets!
Re: Here we go again . . .
Damn, is that a hospital or a resort? Glad to hear you'll be posting more

Well, learning to whine pathetically until your sweetie lays on the TLC thick and heavy is a far more pungent and useful life lesson ... but ...kristina wrote:So what DO they do for pockets? Inquiring minds want to know!AND I found out what Franciscan priests do for pockets!
are you ready?
That hood/cowl thing has a hidden pocket underneath the neck-thing where "father Bryce" (the priest who came by in spite of it all) kept his stuff. But what with the vow of poverty &c it only amounted to a small pad of paper and a stub of pencil. I was hoping for guns or opium at least.
