Good New American Manufacturing Jobs On The Horizon...

That should make the liberals happy:
AK-47s: Soon to be made in USA

An American gun company has found a way around the anti-Russia sanctions that have banned imports of the Kalashnikov assault rifle: Make them here, in the U.S.A.

The U.S.-made gun will have same name as the original: AK-47, arguably the most ubiquitous assault rifle in the world.

The gun will be made by American company RWC, which is the official importer and distributor of Kalashnikov AK-47s. The company had to stop importing the guns after the U.S. imposed sanctions in July against Russia for its role in the Ukraine crisis.

RWC said it is not permitted to have any contact with the Russian company, Kalashnikov Concern, which makes the AK-47s.

"We are not permitted to pick up the phone and to talk to them," said Thomas McCrossin, CEO of RWC, which owns the Kalashnikov USA brand. "We were forced to stop doing business with them because of the sanctions."

RWC, based in Tullytown, Pa., has the rights to the AK-47 Kalashnikov brand of guns, which has been produced in the Soviet Union after World War II.

It is arguably one of the most famous firearm brands in the world. The original AK-47s are made by the 200-year-old Russian company, but it is one of the most copied assault rifles in the world with knock-offs made all over the globe, including China, Europe and the U.S.

For now, the company has enough guns to meet the demand.

"I have a lot of inventory on my shelf bought and paid for," McCrossin told CNNMoney in Las Vegas at the annual gun industry show. "We are permitted to sell these weapons because they were already in the U.S. But when the inventory goes down to zero, there are no more."

McCrossin plans to change that with a new factory that will make the first AK-47s in the U.S.

"In the second quarter of this year we are going to start manufacturing here in the U.S.," said McCrossin. "What I'm manufacturing are our own AK-47s and shotguns under the Kalashnikov brand."

Because Baby Jesus and Mitch McConnell want all of you to be well armed:

[img]Many more people are dying from gun suicides than gun-related homicides
By Jason Millman January 14

Gun suicides are becoming far more common than gun-related homicides, accounting for 64 percent of all gun deaths in 2012, according to new statistics. And the suicides have become especially common among older white men.

There were 32,288 deaths from firearm violence in the United States in 2012, a rate that's remained relatively stable over the past few years. But since 2006, gun suicides have increased from 57 percent of all firearm-related deaths, according to research published this month in the Annual Review of Public Health.

Gun deaths by suicide have outpaced homicide-related deaths in the United States over the past 35 years. But since 2006, the decrease in gun-related homicides have almost been matched by the increase of gun suicides, according to the study from Garen Wintemute, director of the Violence Prevention Research Program at the University of California-Davis.

Suicide risk rises in adolescence, but it also increases sharply among white men in retirement age. By 85 and older, the gun suicide rate for white men was five times higher than the rate for black men and 3.2 times the rate for Hispanic men.

Though homicides have been decreasing, there's still a wide racial disparity in gun violence. Young black adult men, ages 20-29, are 20 times more likely than white men of the same age to be killed by a firearm. And the gun homicide rate is at least five times higher compared to Hispanic men ages 20-29. " [/img]

Of course as has been shown here several times before:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8619&p=108625&hilit ... te#p108625

There is absolutely no correlation whatsoever between the relative availability of firearms in a country and suicide rates, so if suicide rates are up we must look for some other factor to explain it.

An educated guess might be that if suicide rates are up among older white men over the past few years, it could be related to stress created by economic conditions. A large number of people in that group in recent years have found themselves losing long term jobs with little prospect for comparable employment.

Also, a little basic information about statistics:
Gun suicides are becoming far more common than gun-related homicides, accounting for 64 percent of all gun deaths in 2012, according to new statistics. And the suicides have become especially common among older white men.

There were 32,288 deaths from firearm violence in the United States in 2012, a rate that's remained relatively stable over the past few years. But since 2006, gun suicides have increased from 57 percent of all firearm-related deaths, according to research published this month in the Annual Review of Public Health.
If the number of gun deaths overall has "remained relatively stable" but one contributing factor in that number (homicides) is decreasing, then the percentage of deaths represented in the overall number by the other factor (suicides) would automatically go up, even if the number of actual suicides per year remained relatively constant.

In fact, if the overall number is remaining basically unchanged, that pretty much has to be the case...

So the only logical conclusion one can draw from this data (and the rise in the percentage represented by suicides) is that firearm homicides have declined, while firearm suicides have remained relatively unchanged.

There are a lot of guns in this country. Probably a lot more than the East and West coasters, other city folk, and furriners can even contemplate.

Given the huge numbers of guns there is relatively few issues with them.
