Kerry takes a tumble

Post by Gob »

Ouch!!
The US Secretary of State John Kerry has broken his leg in a biking accident in the French Alps.

Mr Kerry, 71, was in a stable condition in hospital in nearby Geneva, Switzerland, a spokesman said.
He was expected to make a full recovery after breaking his right femur and was in good spirits, said John Kirby.

Mr Kerry, who was in Switzerland for talks on Iran's nuclear programme, has called off visits to Madrid and Paris and will fly to the US for treatment.
The accident took place in Scionzier, France, some 40km (25 miles) south-east of the Swiss border.

It appeared Mr Kerry hit a kerb and there was no vehicle involved in the accident, a state department official was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
"Paramedics and a physician were on the scene with the secretary's motorcade at the time of the accident," the state department said.
Mr Kerry "did not lose consciousness", it added.

Femur, wow, that's a bad break especially for a 'mature adult'.

You have to give him credit for being the most macho secretary of state in many decades. Perhaps ever.

This isn't my usual schtick but I feel compelled: John Kerry has put his life on the line for this country, and continued to serve it for the past 40 years. A femur break is no small deal and he deserves far more empathy and respect than either of you two yip-yaps have bothered to show him.

Are you laughing about Beau Biden, too?

Even if you don't like his politics, there is a lot to like about Kerry. But come on, LJ was given a classic straight line (and since it sounds like the good Secretary while having to deal with a tough injury will be back to his active life before too long), it was way into the "safe" humor zone, for me anyway.

That comparison is just silly...

One person is expected to recover fully and just has to cancel meetings for a few days...

The other is dead at 46 leaving behind a wife and two children....

What a disaster for Kerry. I wonder if he is eligible for FEMA for his femur? If so, would he have to pay a small fee or would his fee be more?

Jim made a joke which was nothing to do with Kerry's accident, and is consistent with Jim's dislike of them man and his politics, I chuckled at that joke. My initial comment on his injury was "ouch". It's this sort of po faced sanctimony which is driving me further and further away from my left leanings.

I'm sure it was but he was too busy listening to the sound of his voice.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
