As Sgt."Papa Joe" Schultz always said, "I see nothing, I know nothing!"

Shame on them.
The Freeh report showed that Paterno was much more than clueless about what was going on, or even "looking the other way" to avoid knowing.
From 2002 forward, Paterno was at the center of planning, directing and participating in a multi-year effort to cover-up Sandusky's actions. Paterno's cover-up not only stopped Sandusky from receiving the justice he deserved for what he had done up to that point, it enabled Sandusky to carry out additional acts of molestation that would never have happened if Paterno had done the right thing.
He cared more about the idealized reputation he had built for himself and his football program than he did about justice for the children Sandusky abused.
If he hadn't died, he might very well have wound up spending the last years of his life in prison.
The idea that this man would be receiving any honors at all is repugnant. This decision should be publicly condemned by every prominent Pennsylvanian from the governor on down. They really need to re-think this.

At some point, a documentarian or reporter will do an in-depth historical look at the "real" Paterno, rather than the carefully crafted public image. The Sandusky horror story will be the worst example of Paterno's bad side, but there will be plenty of other examples of him caring mainly about himself. There are plenty of stories floating out there about his racist attitudes, covering up player campus rapes and the like. When the whole sordid story is told, the amoral types who still defend him and even idolize him will be wishing they had never heard of him.
