Sunday Morning

Post by Reality Bytes »

It's 8 am Sunday morning and I am listening to the sounds of the birds, feeling the sun warming my shoulder as it streams through my open window, it's very peaceful - shouldn't think that will last much longer though... missing is the sound of jet engines as all the Hercs are grounded, the new neighbours a few doors down haven't yet banished their yappy little terrier to the garden where it will commence the non stop barking that will last until late tonight  no one has yet fired up their lawn mower or strimmer but they will soon.... I have yet to hear the hair raising teeth clenching shrieks and screams from the brats little darlings who these days seem to communicate only by screaming as piercingly and as frequently as they possibly can like nails on a blackboard *shudders*. My immediate neighbours must be still alseep as their fantastic surround sound speaker system they ever so thoughtfully mounted on the party wall between us is still silent - oh how I look forwards to when they get up and turn on their cd to a gazillion decibels so they can hear it from the garden over the noise of their mates when the "informal" BBQ starts, oh yes and I shall really enjoy having to close all my windows on this lovely sunny day so that the choking smoke and fumes of the BBQ don't asphyxiate me whilst I browse the net.

Oh well at least I have one thing to look forward to ..... it's CAR BOOT SEASON!!! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee my son & his fiance will be arriving shortly and off we'll go a few hours walking in the feilds amongst 100's of stalls who knows what bargains await! I love a good car boot!

I love Sundays me.

There is something indulgent about them/

(SO saying I have just spent the past 1 1/2 mowing the back lawn. So I don't feel very 'indulged'.)

I love a car boot sale.

We have one every weekend just at the local shopping centre. It is called Trash n Treasure. Lots of fun and bargains to be had by all. Also a great place for local veg growers to shift their produce.

I love finding bohemian fashion statements.
Bah!

08:30 and our house is alive with the sound of screaming Formula 1 engines (on three telly's).

I'm on the settee with a cuppa, a blanket and my MacBook

S'nice.

Later on I am gonna finish clearing the weeds from the border.

My Sunday is just ending.

Spent the day chasing a severely schizophrenic girl all over the Territory, banging her up, and filling her full of Risperdal Consta.

A good Sunday would be, a long walk (3 plus hours) with my dogs over open moorland, a few pints with the locals in my nearest pub, home to a bottle of single malt Scotch, Alan Stivell on the stereo, a meal of baked tatties and broccoli with a burger, and a good book.

Such is life.

My day is near ending.

There is something on telly that I want to watch and it doesn't finish for another 3 hours.

I don't know if I can stay awake that long?

Oh Monday mornings, how I detest you.
Bah!

I have an oddish work schedule so sometimes Sunday is Sunday and sometimes it is Tuesday/Friday. We are taking off in the new vehicle to see what we can see, a short road trip.

A short digression from your Sunday revelry.
communicate only by screaming as piercingly and as frequently as they possibly can like nails on a blackboard
I want to get finger nails on a blackboard as my ring tone.I don't know if they make it but I want it.

I lost "Infidel" and have as yet been unable to retrieve it.

OK back to the show...

Went to the Boot Sale - bought something for the dog, something for my hubby and nothing for me   as it was the first one of the season the queues to get in were incredible, never seen it that busy in 10 years even on a bank holiday. We also managed to get round the whole thing whereas later in the season we'll undoubtedly cut off half way round - I must have walked miles and miles :o

One of the things I was thinking I'd miss most when my son moved out was losing my bootsale companion as hubby hates bootsales and when he can be blackmailed threatened prevailed upon to come with me treats it like a yomp across the Falklands  I do often go on my own but it's always nicer with a bit of likeminded company. Luckily my daughter-in-law-to-be likes bootsales too so we fell into a routine of them coming over with me at least once a month last year and we've already decided to go earlier next Sunday so looks like I'll have the pleasure of their company again this year. :D

I was also right about the flipping BBQ  came up here alerted by the sounds of my girls squeaking (guinea pigs) to find the room full of smoke stinking of lighter fluid and charcoal I know they can't help the wind direction but they can bloody well help where they site the bloody grill and move it away from the house where the smoke isn't going to funnel up into my open windows.

Ha, her indoors is just like that! I love a s-l-o-w stroll, and to you know look at the stuff on sale and things. Lord help us if there's a stall with books on, I can be there for hours. Hen treats it as a sprint, how fast can she get to the end and go home.

Farmers markets I'm even worse at.

Yup that sounds like my hubby - I like to wander up one side of the row looking at the stalls then back down the same row looking at all the stalls on the other side, hubby on the other hand strides up the middle of the row as if it's a walking race looking left and right as he goes, theres no way you can see whats on the stalls like that (well I can't anyway lol) especially when theres a steady stream of people blocking the stalls looking for bargains. On the other hand he's useful for the heavy lifting on the odd occassion I spot a bulky bargain.

We call them flea markets and I used to throughly enjoy spending several hours wandering around. I even spent a few summers setting up a "stall". That,I think, is where I aquired my interest in people watching. :D
I expect to go straight to hell...........at least I won't have to spend time making new friends.

That sounds like a wonderful way to spend a Sunday, though I wonder: Do they serve pints in Oz? I don't remember ... been a while.

And they do say that outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend.

(Of course, inside the dog, it is too dark to read).

Now I definitely want an American English option -- a boot sale is a tag sale/flea market/what?

Blimey thats weird I always thought Car Boot Sales originated in the US - umm ok it's where people sell stuff they no longer want out of the trunks (boots) of their cars only it's got a bit more civilised than that these days with most people using pasting tables to set up their "stall" - usually held in fields, or car parks you drive in and pay a nominal fee for your pitch and get selling. You never pay what the seller is asking it's all about the haggle :D Lots of schools will hold a bootsale in their grounds once or twice a year to raise funds for the school, you do get the odd trader but the vast majority of sellers are just people looking to recycle stuff they no longer want or need or who are looking to make a bit of extra tax free cash.

We usually have a stall at least once a year to clear out all the junk we have collected over the previous year  You can buy just about anything at a bootsale but it's all sold as seen so if you get it home and it doesn't work thats too bad.

I thought that's what a boot sale would be (though perhaps a bit more shady). That being said I've never heard of a boot/trunk sale.

Over here they are known as "Trash and treasure" sales. Normally organised by the Rotary or Lions Clubs who use a donated car park or field, and then raise money for their causes by charging rent for a stall space, and a nominal (20 c) entry fee to buyers. Lots of small market gradeners and fruit growers sell their wares in our local one too.

.
They do sell pints here, more and more bars are offering them as an alternative to Schooners and Middies.

Though you cannot have a proper Sunday in Aus, it has to be in England, on a sightly cold and drizzley day, with a log fire going, preferably far west Cornwall. :)
