Carol Doda, who helped take stripping out of the shadowy margins of American society and gained worldwide fame as a topless dancer in the 1960s and ’70s, died Monday of complications related to kidney failure. She was 78.

Well that's a shame. She figured in a short story by Tom Wolfe where he goes out to lunch with Marshall McLuhan and Herb Caen. Ahhh so to speak.

Did she have breast reduction surgery. I recall her being touted as the first silicon queen (back when they used injections rather than implants) and I recall seeing a picture of her standing on the stage with two midgets (little people?) holding up a beast form below. It's a long time ago, but that image never left me.

I think she may have had her implants removed. Which reminds me, it is rumored that among her many accomplishments is that she served as an inspiration for front airbags in automobiles.

She was in many ways an unsung heroine.

And for the name of the TV show, Twin Peaks.

Carol Doda didn't have implants, they didn't exist back then. She had liquid silicone injected directly into her breasts.
