Wondering when Ed Lee will tender his resignation (after he throws everyone else under the bus).

yeah, I showed holly, she was shocked. I also showed my daughter, and she cried with me. I wanted her to see the truth.
rose colored glasses are not appropriate in these times

I spend my whole adult life teaching my kids that the police are the good guys. damn it, don t make a liar out of me guys.
I spent, and spend, some of my life outside the law, but I respected the law. I just liked to party, not lie cheat or steal. a fistfight here and there, but only by mutual consent.
civilian , and even criminal, lives matter

I can't think of any argument that would justify that shooting. It's like it went into their break time they just wanted to get it over with so they could go have donuts & coffee.
I know we didn't see the whole thing. Apparently, the kid had stabbed somebody prior to this. The thing is the kid didn't raise his knife at the cop but the cop reacted as though he was being threatened.

The public spectacle of Mario Woods's death, witnessed in person by a Muni bus carrying schoolchildren home from nearby Bret Harte Elementary and untold more across the country via social media, is the kind of graphic depiction of excessive police force that prompted uprisings and rioting in cities across the U.S.
But where black youth in Ferguson, Mo., Cleveland, New York City, Baltimore, and Los Angeles have taken to the streets en masse, the response in San Francisco has been more contained. The Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood may have been the crucible in which Alicia Garza, one of the three co-founders of Black Lives Matter, formed her politics, but with so few African Americans remaining in the city, it seems unlikely that San Francisco will become the next flashpoint in the developing narrative of racial uprising in U.S. urban cores.
A vigil and march last Thursday night in the Bayview was shepherded into the St. Paul of the Shipwreck Church for a community meeting that focused on organizing resistance. SFPD's town hall the next night drew a significant crowd, but calls from some protesters for the community to leave the meeting and march through the neighborhood went largely unheeded. On Monday, the local chapter of the NAACP called for another meeting, this time in the Fillmore, the one-time "Harlem of the West."
"People meeting and unifying and organizing is just as important as street protesting," says Biko Eisen-Martin, a teacher, poet, and activist who has been working with the Black Lives Matter Bay Area chapter since the night of Woods' death. "Even though we're down to 3.5 percent, we're a strong 3.5 percent."
Eisen-Martin and BLM have released a list of demands that includes charging the police officers who killed Woods with murder. They are uninterested in proposals by the SFPD and the mayor to amend police use-of-force policies by attempting yet again to equip San Francisco police with Tasers and increase de-escalation training for police.
"The police are aware of how to apprehend people peacefully," Eisen-Martin says, referencing instances where the SFPD has apprehended white suspects — like the man, also armed with a knife, who stole a police cruiser and drove it to Treasure Island in October — without killing them. "They just don't do that with black people. They shoot them like dogs. When police know that they can no longer shoot us with impunity, they won't do it anymore."
It's true that cops know how to apprehend a knife wielding suspect without shooting him 20 times - our cops just fucking suck, too many of them, and the rest follow silently - until caught.
We need major policing reform.

the firing of that many shots, justified or not, was foolish in that situation. there were civilians and cops everywhere around.
that guy was so close that he could have put one in the guys leg,and if he didn t stop, one in the chest..., and would be done.
not that it was appropriate, just that the way it was done violated almost everything I have ever been taught about proper gun handling

Of course, and the very fact that nobody calls a shot - or two - and instead there are 20 shots fired, shows they are acting from adrenalin rush and not professional, dispassionate judgment of how to contain the situation with the least show of force.
Fucking amped up adrenalin junkies who don't see 'perps' as quite fully human. Especially the brown ones.

Trivial note... The place where that shooting occurred is very close to the house where I lived in SF from birth to age 11. My family moved out of there when the Italians and Irish sold their homes and there went the neighborhood.
It's now one of the highest crime areas in SF - if not the highest.

Absolutely no excuse for all those shots.
He had a knife, he had demonstrated he was prepared to use it, and he was moving towards one of the cops...
But one shot in the leg should have been enough to get the guy to drop the knife and no longer be a threat ...

The officer moved into his direction of travel, he was trying to get away with limited routes open to him.

Police culture does not emphasize "shoot to contain." It historically teaches "shoot to kill." The most effective way to do that is, of course, to shoot at a person's torso or head. It's efficiency over doing what's right.
It's the police culture that needs to be changed. New methods for new trainees can be implemented immediately but the culture of treating minorities the same as whitey will take a generation or more before shoot-to-kill is filtered out. Cops always deny racism but most of them practice it in their daily duties.
Most all defense lawyers will tell you that those who lie the most on the witness stand are police officers. Upholding the culture of the Thin Blue Line is sacrosanct. It's impressed upon them it's for the greater good so they act with impunity.

Nice but unlikely... besides Fafhrd, it's about the standard for some and if you keep this up you'll be sent to the basement to watch Michael Landon television shows until you say, "F*** this" and join the herd
