Guns are killing as many Americas as car accidents for the first time since records began, according to a new report.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported its latest mortality data this month.
For the first time in more than 60 years, the death rate for gun-related deaths and deaths involving a motor vehicle are the same for 2014 – 10.3 deaths per 100,000 people.
For firearms, this figure includes homicides, accidental deaths and suicides. But while homicide rates have fallen in recent years, suicides have surged and account for around two-thirds of gun deaths, according to the Washington Post.

Oh thank
GOD...
I was just thinking, "Gee it's been minutes since we last had a gun control discussion. I sure hope somebody starts one soon..."
I can hardly wait to read everyone's positions on the subject. I'm sure there will be plenty of surprises, and fresh arguments on both sides that no one has ever made before...

Ride a bicycle, people. It's demonstrably safer than either of these.

Unfortunately it's fairly dangerous in the places I've lived/will be living. Too many drunks on the road, and no safe space for bicycles on the road.

Agreed,BSG,one reason I gave it up.
Cars have become safer and guns have pretty much stayed the same.

Gob, any possibility that Las Vegas driver saw this graph and decided to skew it back in favour of cars?

seeing as how guns are designed to kill stuff, I would be disappointed if they failed to beat cars at it.....

We can deduce that firearms are working as designed, cars not so much.

People who drive cars are required to take a test and pass it. They are required to have insurance and are financially liable for damages. And of course no one says the answer to traffic deaths is to have more cars and fewer restrictions on drivers.

It is obvious from the chart that cars are killing fewer people each year in motor accidents, but that gun deaths are remaining constant.

Even as the total amount of guns in the public realm has increased.

Medical science has gotten better — sadly, through experience.
