I'm not so sure about this...

In the 100,000 plus population category, I'm getting "Saint-Paul (La Réunion), France" (I'll double check, but I don't think France is on the opposite side of the globe to San Francisco...)

The 1 million plus population location seems to make more sense:

"Antananarivo, Madagascar"

It's telling me that France is further from Ess Eff than Madagascar and Zimbabwe...

That just doesn't make sense...

This time I believe wes is correct.
I used Rochester MN as my start point (about 65 miles away from where I am seated right now) and — after being warned that the absolute furthest spot was likely in the middle of the ocean somewhere — wound up 17,214 klicks away in Perth, Australia.

Oh gee, you guys are right...

"Saint-Paul La Réunion, France"

Ain't in France...

It's off the south-east coast of Africa...

Now I feel like a complete ignoramus...

(Which frankly is a feeling that unfortunately I have some acquaintance with... )

I give other people a hard time for not knowing basic geography, and then I make a boneheaded mistake like that...

I also got Perth (17,666 mi.). Apparently from the perspective of someone in Perth, Bill, Meade, @W, CP and I are all next-door neighbors to each other. (Just like Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house, I can see Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan from my house... )

Well, the reason is that the antipode of most of the US is in the middle of the Indian ocean. So, West Coasters would find the antipode closer to the West Indian Ocean (hence closer to Madagascar or Mauritius, or in the case of Anchorage AK, South Africa) but East Coasters, it's the East Indian Ocean (closer to Perth, Western Australia.).

I did a bit of searching, and found that the city (on their list) with it's antipode most "Centered" in the Indian Ocean would be Wichita, Kansas. Vacoas - Phoenix, Mauritius is only 22 miles further from Wichita than Perth is.

Apparently you can see Boston, too.

Furtherest city: Perth Australia, 18,702.

The furthest point from where you are is called "antipodes". No large body of land is at the antipodes from the US. Noth Island, New Zealand, is at the antipodes from parts of Spain, and southern Argentina and Chile are at the antipodes from parts of China and Siberia. There's a map of the world in the Wikipedia article "Antipodes" showing the relationships

Agreed, you just need to drive up to Redding to get about as far away from The City as you'll ever get. :)

"Philadelphia PA, in the United States of America, is not the furthest city of any city with a population over 100,000."

For much of my adult life I've been telling anyone who would listen the exact opposite. I am now starting to think I may have been wrong about other things, too. Damn!

I'm pretty sure that site says the same thing about every other city whose "furthest point" is listed as Perth.

(It seems I can see you from my house, too, Ray! Hi!)
