NEW YORK (AP) — The New York City Police Department says a person walking in a Manhattan park has found the severed, cooked head of a horse and other animal parts in a cardboard box.
Investigators say the person was walking through Harlem River park when he came upon the severed head inside a Corona beer box at about 11 a.m. on Sunday. Along with the cooked head were slightly less exotic items like fruit, vegetables and soda.
The Department of Sanitation removed the head shortly after.
According to the New York Post, NYPD said they are looking into whether the cooked horse head was part of a "voodoo" ritual associated with the Dominican Republic Independence Day celebration held on Saturday.
Horse meat is legal to eat in New York.
The NYPD investigation into the mysterious horse head is continuing.
