Another parent who should be forcibly sterilized

An Amber Alert and massive police search for a three-month-old baby who was in the back seat of a car stolen from a Toronto flea market has ended with the child found safe and reunited with his parents.

Toronto police say a member of the public called them after spotting the missing 1997 Toyota Camry.

Officers found the baby safe in the car around 7:30 p.m. Sunday — four hours after it was reported stolen with the infant inside and the temperature dipping below the freezing mark.

The car was found in a northwest Toronto parking lot near Dixon Road and Martin Grove Road, not far south from the parking lot it was taken from.

Police had said the boy’s father left him in the idling car while he went to the flea market around 3:40 p.m. The father saw the car driving away and chased after it on foot, but lost it when the Camry drove onto Highway 27 northbound toward Albion Road.

What kind of subdefective moron leaves a baby unattended in an idling car? Sterilize the father, and terminate his parental rights for all his children. Sterilize the mother too, for being stupid enough to breed with this idiot, and terminate her parental rights as well unless she promises to never again allow the idiot within five miles of her children. Then throw both of them in prison for endangering the life of this child.

Would it be safe to assume that you don't approve of this infant's parents?

Post Darwinism ,doesnt help the here and now ,unfortunately there will always be people around who are to stupid to have progeny and its my expressed wish that these third world parents would stop producing so many children to starve and suffer the balance of their miserable lives .

Okay, here's a devil's advocate point of view:

The incidence of children being abducted by strangers, and particularly accidentally by carjackers or car thieves, is infinitesimally small.

When I was growing up, it was entirely commonplace and totally acceptable to leave children in the car while popping into the store - even very young children. I believe it's still common in many European countries to see babies left in prams outside small shops where the prams don't fit easily down the aisles.

I'm certainly glad my parents weren't deemed unfit to reproduce, and likewise sure there are many other peeps in the world - and possibly on this board - who were likewise abused as children and yet grateful to exist.

Just putting that out there.

We can probably blame whoever it was that came up with that bit of balloon juice that goes "It takes a village to raise a child" (and no, it wasn't Hillary; she just published a ghost-written book with that title).  Trouble is, the village idiots seem to be getting far too much input into the process.

That was pretty common when I was a kid as well, but I never recall anyone leaving a kid in a running car--even if they were only running in for something quick (like a pack of cigarettes). Now granted a 3 month old can't put the car in gear and have an accident like a toddler can, but leaving a child in a running car seems particularly stupid--not be cause of the chances of kidnap (which are small), but for other problems that could occur.

That said, I don't favor sterilization--how many of us could be called fit parents by the standards of others (especially the holier than thou types)?

It's called hyperbole for a reason. But I think there should be criminal charges here - this was grossly irresponsible. And I almost feel more sorry for the guy who stole the car, who almost certainly didn't see the baby until it was too late and obviously dumped the car at the first opportunity.

I was sure it was hyperbole on your part, Scooter, but there are some who would echo that position and mean it.

Less common these days, but still happens.

I think I even see that differently than leaving an infant in a running car. As someone said, there are really an infinitessimal number of sickos who going to snatch a baby, but there a lot more delinquents who are going to be tempted by a running car.

ETA - Police have chosen not to lay charges against the father.. Wrong decision.
