Not so long ago there was a sort of spin off from 60 Minutes, called '48 Hours' The gimmick was that the staff of the show would be given an assignment and research, write, produce and broadcast the show--all in 48 hours. That did not last long. Yes the show of that name is still on the air, but the gimmick has long since been abandoned.

Now a long running ABC feel good morning show is getting alot of hype about change to the name stars. From CNN a few days ago:

'On Wednesday evening, the spokeswoman said, "On tomorrow's 'LIVE with Kelly and Michael,' Erin Andrews will guest co-host with Michael Strahan. Friday's show -- which already was scheduled to pre-tape on Thursday -- also will be co-hosted by Andrews. Kelly Ripa will be out on Friday and Monday for a previously-scheduled vacation. On Monday's show, Michael will be joined by 'Pretty Little Liars' star Shay Mitchell."'

Please note the show is called "Live. . . ." and the Friday showed was pre-taped on Thursday. By-the -by, the Wikipedia entry for this show says the format is intended to invoke the feelings of a light friendly conversation between husband and wife. Given that, I can understand why Ripka is pissed that the show owners divorced the pair without informing her it was coming.

But '48 Hours' is not done in that time, 'Live with Kelly and Michael' is not done live, the many 'reality' shows are rehearsed and scripted. . .

Once upon a time there was congressional investigation and tv networks trembled in fear of the effects of revealing a quiz show was scripted. Now such is routine.

Is it any wonder the main consumers of this these media are scary-ignorant for the coming presidential election?

When PHd's in Education come up with "Smarter Balanced" testing, what hope is there for anyone to actually be educated. How is a guy supposed to get more smarter in this crazy world.

My local university radio station has a regular station id that includes "listening to Mozart I get more smarter." I think it is supposed to prompt at least a smile.
