Now long before this becomes a PS4 or Wii offering? "Bears and Shears"
A 7-year-old boy's parents left him in the woods as a punishment. And now, they can't find him.
Yamato Tanooka and his family went to a mountain range in northern Japan on Saturday. His parents told police they left him in the woods to punish him for throwing rocks at cars and people.
Tanooka's parents originally told police their son went missing while picking wild vegetables with the family. Later, they admitted they made the boy get out of the car at the bottom of the mountain, according to NHK World.
More than 100 people have been searching for the boy since Saturday afternoon and have had no luck finding him.
It's well documented that bears live in the area. In 2010, two people were mauled to death by bears on the island where the boy went missing, The Telegraph reported. And in 2013, a man was attacked by a bear on a different mountain range on the island. He defended himself using pruning shears.

That will teach the sinful, disobedient son. The nerve of that child. Stoning, ingestion by ursidae -- what's the difference? Parental disrespect cannot stand.

Then again, there is the rebuttal from Rudyard Kipling and two dramatic re-enactments from Disney that agree this child will be a better person for growing up in the wild. It was a piece of inspired Disney genius that the wise bear Baloo should be voiced by the worldly-wise Phil Harris.

Defend them? Raythoms post and mine pointed out that the Bible supports their technique. Not that we agree with it.
And you are so malleable about Biblical interpretation surely you could interpret it any way at all.

I love that song!
I don't interpret Scripture. I do read it and endeavour to understand it. It's odd that atheistic "scientific" thinkers are critical of understanding, given that science is the very embodiment of doubt and correction. Why Christians should be required by you chaps to not learn seems a little bigoted to me.
Taking Ray's quote... do you and he believe that the social control practises of Hebrews approx. 6,000 years or more ago are normative for all people, in all places and for all time? No, you don't. Then why do you think that I should believe such a thing?
Taking your quote... how do you apply the story to how parents should punish their children (bearing in mind the above paragraph)?
So far, I don't need exegesis to expose your excusable misunderstanding

I too read scripture and endeavor to understand it. That scripture I read includes the Book of Mormon, The Didache, The Gospel of Thomas, the Adi Granth, Tao Te Ching, and most recent, Turtles All the Way Down by Gordon Atkinson. I am monolingual so most of this I read in translation. But all of it I try to understand, which for me, is another way to say I interpret it.
