It would be nice to have a place like Russia where my grandchildren could retreat to once this place goes to hell. Back to the steppes our ancestral home land. The problem is I would not want to live there now; at the moment life is still better here. But the time is coming when Russia will be a better place to live than this country. If one could only get dual Russian american citizenship and live here until it is time to go back home that would be ideal. My family looks enough like Russians that in a generation we would fit right in, but there is a problem. Unlike the rulers of this country the Russian leadership operates the government to benefit the citizens they already have. One has a hard time gaining Citizenship unless you can benefit the country in some way.

So what you are saying is that you could not be useful or desirable, not even in Russia.
Also, another link under the main article you linked to says that it is now a criminal offense to "hide" dual citizenship in Russia so it sounds like you would have to denounce your US citizenship to help your cause along.

Remember when your elders disapproved of spitting on soldiers and burning the flag, now those things are considered art among your people. You got the country you wanted, but how long do you think a country can last when patriotism is considered the opinion of fools…… What happened to your praise for the Soviet Union?


For me, I think the good times will last the rest of my life it is my children and grandchildren I worry about; they will have hell to deal with if they are unable to escape.

They don’t need old men trained as electronic technicians and whose specialty is electro-mechanics. They need machinist and gas welders such as Heliarc (TIG) welders. I wonder why that would be in demand? As I am sure you know it is used weld nonferrous metals such as aluminum, stainless steel and titanium, light strong metals used in the aerospace industry.

Well, it is a lot better than it used to be and as this country declines Russia will look even better. The handwriting is on the wall, but few can read it.

You know nothing... (and I could and should stop here, as it would be an 100% accurate statement) about my "people" and my patriotism. Your prejudices continue to blind you to actual facts and actual reality. Starting with the fact that you're the one threatening to leave, and wanting to go to Russia of all places.

Seriously, just get out of my country, and see how well you do in "Mother Russia." I'm certain you wouldn't last a week.

Then it will be your fault if you don't do all you can now to move your family to Russia. You should call a meeting with your family and explain this to them. I'm sure that before they leave they will put you in a safe place.

I worry about similar things (kids only so far) and the world we are leaving them. But I wouldn't choose Russia as a "hiding place". I would prefer to stand and fight and I think my kids have a similar attitude.

If I were to choose a "hiding spot" it would be somewhere in the mountains as far from people as possible. And a lake or stream/river with game around.

Plenty of places like that are right here in the USA.

I am not going anywhere, it is just my way of pointing out how screwed this country is. What we are doing to our posterity should be a crime. And we have mostly Democrats to thank for it starting with Clinton and continuing with Obama. Because of their desire to make to make a little more profit on their overseas investments they condemned our future generation to lives of poverty.

What year is the future poverty for our children going to start?
