I had to get a new phone from tracphone. They were switching to 4g and my phone was not compatable. I asked if they had a flip phone but they did not, it was not on the list of free phones. (list of one). So I settled for the free one. oh that reminds me, I have to go buy some more minutes. 10min should be good for the rest of the year. Too bad they only sell in increments of 60min.

You can get a flip phone from AT&T. Join their PAYG plan for as little as $25/month. Why it even connects to the Internet but why would anyone want to do that on a phone anyway? I just turned my unlocked Phartsmone (for use in any country) over to my wife and activated my old Nokia which fits nicely in my pocket and doesn't come with terrifying visions of dropping it.

That's about $20 too high. I get a $20 tracphone card and the minutes I get last me about 3 months. Now if I could get my family to stop texting me I could get the minutes to last 4-6 months. But then the card only recharges the phone for 3 months regardless of how many minutes you get/have.

$10/month is about the most I will pay.

If it is an Apple smartphone they will replace a busted screen for $100. If it is a Samsung please stand further away and take a boat to Africa.

I don't talk on the phone all that much, don't want to burn up minutes.

I don't and will not text anyone!

I try not to. My daughter will text me and before the second back and forth I end up calling her. It takes me longer to type "OK" than to call and get said what needs to be said.
I can't wait for all these people who walk around with their necks and backs hunched over their phones to have neck problems (and thumb problems).
Then they'll sue the cell phone makers for not putting a warning label on the phone about possible side effects of excessive texting.

Texting helps with people who can't do quick calls. It also allows for a message to be delivered and be answered at the receivers convenience.

It's already a very well documented phenomena, loads of articles online in both lamestream media and medical journals. Neck problems from the way most folks look at their smartphone with neck bent, looking downward - docs recommend holding it out in front of you, just like they're been nagging me for years that I should hold my books that way. Thumb problems from texting/gaming - docs say, "try calling people instead of texting them if you can" - see oldr, you're on the cutting edge of RSI advocacy!

Which makes sense, unlike a lot of texting. The next level now made possible with better voice to text recognition, is to have two people communicate with each other by talking to their phones, each phone translates their words into text and sends to the other phone. Given how annoying people's voices can be (are there two immediate national examples that come to mind?), maybe this is an improvement, but Bell might disagree.

Any studies on injuries from people walking with their face in the phone and getting hit by a car or breaking an ankle or something similar?

Given my work schedule, if I got any texts they would most likely come when I was either driving or sleeping. I actually had my provider (Verizon) disable texting for my phone number. I might be the only person left in the US (or the world?) who NEVER sends or receives text messages.
