Chokin' The Chicken

Post by dales »

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi attorney is suing Popeyes after he says he choked when he had to eat a piece of fried chicken with his hands because a knife wasn't included in his drive-thru order.

Paul Newton Jr., who filed the lawsuit this week, says the only utensil he was given last November at the Gulfport restaurant was a spork.

The lawsuit states that because Newton didn't receive a plastic knife, his only option was to hold the chicken breast with his hands and tear off pieces with his teeth, causing him to choke.

The lawsuit says Newton underwent emergency surgery to remove the piece of chicken from his throat.

Along with knives for all drive-thru customers' orders, Newton is also seeking financial compensation and punitive damages from several defendants
Perhaps this greedy doofus should learn to eat.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I recall Amy Vanderbilt in a commercial (for something like wash and drys) saying chicken could be eaten with the hands on a picnic, but never in a formal setting. The car (which I assume he ate the chicken in) seems closer to a picnic, so use of his hands would be covered by etiquette; I'd like to see more details to see if there are any other facts or circumstances surround this (and why a knife would help--it would seem then that both hands would be off the wheel if he were driving; or if he were parked in the lot, why he couldn't just go in and ask for a knife).

I'm betting good ol' Paul, the people,s friend, is a "slip-and-fall, ambulance chaser" and loaded down with gambling debt.

Anybody who can't eat fried chicken without a knife and fork doesn't deserve any fried chicken to eat.

I'm with Econo on this one...

But of course the whole problem could have been avoided if they had just painted the fried chicken a bright safety yellow...

Way back in 1962 I was with some local university students on Heidelberg main street discussing whether to get something cheap to eat, or cheap to drink. Naturally the winner was 'do both'. First we went into a place that specialized in 'Halb Huhnchen' followed by a longer stop at a Weinstubbe to argue the virtues of various Moselwein. Both places were cheap. First was a rotissrrie half of very small chicken, followed by wine by the glass with a huge number of possible choices. A glass of wine was less than a cup of coffee anyplace else. The chicken was about the same price as a cup of coffee.

There one of the Germans explained to me the best thing America had done for Germany--convinced Germans it was ok to eat chicken with one's fingers, without assistance from knife or fork.

How one cuts fried chicken while driving is beyond me. I think we need a law against it.

Nope, this is one stupid claim, brought by someone who has no clue. The guy is not a personal injury attorney -- he does estate planning and tax -- and boy does it show. (I haven't been able to find a copy of the filed complaint, but I will bet dollars to donuts it was filed pro se.) No actual personal injury attorney would get within a mile of this case. And so this jackass has made real PI lawyers look bad because of his own hubris. Oh, and now he's dropped the lawsuit, allegedly because of "extreme comments" and threats on the interwebz. Who could have seen that coming???   Thanks for nothing, Newton!

ETA:

While I haven't been able to actually read the whole complaint, they showed some pages from it, and also the Notice of Dismissal, in the newscast clip on the WLOX-TV site. It appears that the action was in fact filed pro se.

Frickin' amateurs.
