A pet rabbit is dressed as Santa Claus at a photo event to celebrate Christmas and the Year of the Rabbit at a pet rabbit shop in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday. The year 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit on the Chinese zodiac calendar.

The horoscopes say The Year of the Rabbit will be a good, if not a little boring for some, year;
Good taste and refinement will shine on everything and people will acknowledge that persuasion is better than force. A congenial time in which diplomacy, international relations and politics will be given a front seat again. We will act with discretion and make reasonable concessions without too much difficulty.

A time to watch out that we do not become too indulgent. The influence of the Rabbit tends to spoil those who like too much comfort and thus impair their effectiveness and sense of duty.

Law and order will be lax; rules and regulations will not be rigidly enforced. No one seems very inclined to bother with these unpleasant realities. They are busy enjoying themselves, entertaining others or simply taking it easy. The scene is quiet and calm, even deteriorating to the point of somnolence. We will all have a tendency to put off disagreeable tasks as long as possible

Money can be made without too much labor. Our life style will be languid and leisurely as we allow ourselves the luxuries we have always craved for. A temperate year with unhurried pace. For once, it may seem possible for us to be carefree and happy without too many annoyances.

On a personal note, I've found this method of divining to be the most accurate. When it has been forecast that the year ahead for me will be rough, slow, romantic or whatevah; it's usually been right. I was ready for the tribulations of '09 because that was exactly what my fortune had foretold. When I got fired earlier this year in March, it had been said I would find better work and lo and behold, that came true.
I remember speaking with a Chinese friend about the holiday, because there's always something new to be learned about it; and he told me, whatever your New Year's Day is like, the rest of the year will be like that. I asked- So, what if I have a fight that day?
He retorted, No don't! If you fight that day, you'll be fighting all year.
Checking the calender, I noticed I was scheduled for work; so I asked him if I work that day, then what happens?
Then you'll be working all year :D

Hoppy New Year EveryBunny, may the Moon Rabbit bless you and keep you safe!

My wife got my dog an antler head thingy and a Christmas collar with bells on it. He tolerated those for about 10 seconds and then went crazy ripping them off himself.

but he did have a great time opening his presents (mostly bones).

What many Westerners didn't know is: Chinese(Lunar) New Year is also a Celebration of Spring! The last phase of the old moon has past and I saw it with my own eyes, in the early morning of the 19th. That was the final curtain call of the last full moon of last year.

<cue flash back harp chords>

I unlocked my bike from under the awning, my back to the setting moon... When I turned to push off down the drive, the sky beckoned; and I looked lunar-ward. There she was: low but filing the heavens, for her last bow good-bye, before she slipped backstage, and sank below the horizon. Lovely in her own light; the sun had yet to appear, while the stars already pined her passing. A cloak of mist she wore, her train becoming the fog that blanketed the fields and trails. Her beautiful glow I couldn't catch on camera, so I didn't try but paused and captured a moment of celestial calm in my hand as a keepsake. I conveyed my thanks; sighed, and rode forth in the last rays of moonlight spilling from her cape and across the countryside.

Sleep well, my lady, I await your return!
