Terrorism suspected in car-and-knife attack at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A Somali-born college student plowed his car into a group of pedestrians at Ohio State University and began stabbing people with a butcher knife Monday before he was shot to death by a police officer. Police said they are investigating whether it was a terrorist attack.
Eleven people were hurt, one critically.
The attacker was identified as Ohio State student Abdul Razak Ali Artan. He was born in Somalia and was a legal permanent resident of the U.S., according to a U.S. official who wasn't authorized to discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Interesting that no one seems the need to reply (as of yet).
Perhaps when terrorism rears its ugly head on American soil for whatever reason, that is a warning that the USA should not grow too complacent.

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for a car and knife rampage at a US college on Monday that left 11 people injured.
The attack at Ohio State University was carried out by Somali-born Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a student at the Columbus campus, authorities said.
The IS-affiliated Amaq news agency called the 18-year-old business undergraduate a "soldier".
There is no immediate way to verify the group's claim.

I have a far greater fear of born/bred white conservative American terrorism. Statistically it's much more likely to harm people I love.
Remember this guy? The police bought him Burger King on the way to jail, after he murdered a bunch of nice but black Christians at a prayer circle. Now he gets to represent himself at trial so he can spew his toxic racism and destroy the living victims even more.
If you are black or Muslim your blackness or Muslimness is accepted without question as an adequate explanation for your behavior.
That is how racism works.
If you are white other white people will look further for an explanation which excludes them from being automatically suspect, or even culpable.

There are hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees from terrorist groups in the US, in Kenya and Ethiopia. Because they don't support terrorism. And you have 1 perp. here.
That is how education and knowledge overcome racism.

Islamism and islam are Ideas and ideologies and can be perfectly adequate explanations for behaviors and inclinations.

Once agin I m amazed. Cop has to shot a guy waving a knife. As a result, there is no possibility of interrogation of the dead freshman student. Isis is free to claim anything and various posters her in this thread accept those claims as all the substantiation needed to call this Islamic Terrorism.
By the way, have you looked into the dangerous ideas and ideology found in say, Christianity? Have you looked into what that group has done in the name of establishing world dominance, establishing the Kingdom of God on Earth?

I am fairly sure -- not positive -- that when the officer dispatched the ISIS recruit the police communication recording of the incident had the officer yelling "shooter down... shooter down..." This indicates to me that although the policeman quickly ended the siege he wasn't assessing the situation to the fullest extent possible. With a calmer head and a bit more control of the situation he would have realized he was dealing with a knife wielder, and not a person with a gun.
Sure, under the circumstance the perp probably deserved being shot dead but had the officer been thinking straighter maybe the recording would have been different. "Suspect down... suspect down..." would have indicated a cooler head prevailing behind the badge.
Police culture needs to change.

I say again. Most cops today carry a collapsed baton and a taser on their equipment belt. They reach for their gun first. They practice with the pistol. They practice very little with the baton. A nightstick or the high-tech version, the PR24, are more adaptable than a firearm. The knife is useless beyond arms reach. A blow to the forearm, elbow, collarbone with an old fashioned night stick would have ended the confrontation. This is not the responsibility of the cop on the street. It is a predictable result of an upper-management bias that it it better to buy equipment which the seller claims can be used with little training rather than actually spend time and money over and over to train people. Look into the front seat of your neighborhood cop car. The driver is surrounded by equipment, including multiple computer screens. [distracted driving? What's that?] There is no place for a 'partner' to even sit in the car. Equipment over people. The terrorist from Somalia could have been available for direct information. Now it is only speculation.
