It's good to hear from you
Self-evacuations are under way in Gatton, Laidley and Forest Hill.
That's from your link,
Aard Vark.
I know you said you're on high ground, but you already had trouble trying to get out before, and this is a new event, and even more sinister.
I hope you're okay - I came on the PlanB site as soon as I heard of the flash flood, and as soon as I heard Forest hill was affected. I thought that was where you lived, but I was hoping that I'd remembered wrong.
I have a few friends, and a couple of rellies, in areas that are close to the floods - none have lost their home that I know of, although one family are in an area that was cut off on Sunday, and I haven't heard from them since. I'm fairly confident they'll be okay, but these floods are swelling higher than 100-year floodline and doing all sorts of weird things, like the flash flooding at Toowoomba.
THE Queensland city of Toowoomba has been devastated by a deadly wall of water in scenes reminiscent of a tsunami.
...
An unknown number of others are missing after the flood hit about midday (AEST), washing away cars, some with drivers still trapped inside.
...
The seething, dirty torrent arrived without warning trapping pedestrians, motorists, tearing up roads and leaving the city virtually cut off.
...
An unknown number of people remain trapped in cars and in buildings in Toowoomba, as rescuers struggle to reach them.
Communities in the Lockyer Valley were also hit by the destructive torrent.
...
"There's houses come off the stumps at (nearby) Postmans Ridge and taken down the creek, possibly two or three."
Toowoomba Mayor Peter Taylor said there was still no clear picture of the damage in his community but it was enormous.
"There has been loss of life. I don't know how many at this point ..." he told the ABC.
"There is massive damage ... this is unbelievable damage."
