Grapefruit-sized? What is the kinetic energy of a grapefruit-sized hail stone at terminal velocity??

The only data I could find was for an 8cm hailstone, slightly smaller than grapefruit, and it looks like it makes 806 Joules at terminal velocity although reaching terminal velocity is unlikely.

A pretty good whack to anything left out in the open. Not good for the fruit trees, shingles nor mobile homes.

They've just had a tidy storm back in Devon/Cornwall/Wales

Heavy storms raged over the South West, with heavy downpours and lightning striking properties.

The Met Office said over the four-hour period from midnight to 04:00 there was a "notable" amount of lightning.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service reported strikes at eight properties, and a BT box on a telegraph pole was destroyed.

Cornwall's fire service reported "properties and businesses" had been struck.

The events were caught on camera by members of the public across the region.

Nothing to report - grapefruit seed sized hail at best. It looks as if the weather guys have been taking lessons from Trump - promise something huge and maybe they will be satisfied with much much less.
