Man shot to death at early morning party in Belmont

A man was fatally shot during an argument at a party early Saturday in Belmont and the suspect remains at large, authorities said.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired about 5:15 a.m. at an apartment on the 500 block of Ralston Avenue, near Granada Street, said Police Chief Dan DeSmidt of the Belmont Police Department.

A man, whose identity was not released, was found dead in the apartment, DeSmidt said.

It is unclear if the man lived at the apartment.

“It looked like it might have been a party or some kind of get together that turned into an argument that turned into a shooting,” DeSmidt said.

A male suspect fled the scene.

Detectives were in the process of interviewing “a handful” of witnesses who were at the party to determine an identification on the suspect, DeSmidt added.

“It appears that some of them might have known him,” DeSmidt said.

There were no other injuries in the shooting.

Suspect in Belmont murder nabbed at Union City BART station

By Filipa Ioannou Published 7:54 am, Wednesday, August 9, 2017

A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Belmont was found and arrested early Wednesday at the Union City BART station after a four-day investigation and search, officials said.

Jovhon Alexander Stewart, 27, was wanted in the shooting death of 24-year-old DeJohn Jones on the 500 block of Ralston Avenue in Belmont early Saturday, according to the Belmont Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire about 5:15 a.m. and found Jones inside an apartment suffering from a bullet wound — which investigators believe was inflicted by a killer with a semiautomatic handgun.

Paramedics pronounced Jones dead at the scene, police said.

On Monday evening, police announced they had identified Stewart as a suspect in the shooting.
Belmont police located Stewart and worked with officers from the Union City and BART police departments to take him into custody at the Union City BART station about 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, according to police.

He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on suspicion of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, police said.
