The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!

Post by ex-khobar Andy »

So I am minding my own business and trying to find someone who will remove a troublesome maple tree from my back yard which is threatening to come down and take out my roof or my neighbor's tulips. Apparently my local tree service is on Facebook with links to the website. I follow the link.
Revolution Slider Error: You have some jquery.js library include that comes after the revolution files js include.
This includes make eliminates the revolution slider libraries, and make it not work.

To fix it you can:
1. In the Slider Settings -> Troubleshooting set option: Put JS Includes To Body option to true.
2. Find the double jquery.js include and remove it.
I am really worried that my revolution slider libraries are apparently not working. I think the Russians who let their revolution slide are trying to warn me. The above is clearly what you get if you put the original Russian
ка слайдера Revolution: у вас есть библиотека jquery.js, которая появляется после включения файлов революции js.
Это включает в себя make исключает библиотеки слайдера революции и делает его неработоспособным.
into Google translate. Note that there is apparently no Russian word for Revolution. That settles it. You have all been warned.

That's what you get for using that Commie anti-virus software (Kaspersky).

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

The yard of the first house I bought (for $22,000 in 1976) had several of those terrible Chinese Elm trees. Six needed topped, and three needed removed. I got bids from three tree services (in a town of 15,000) ranging from $1000 to $2500. The guy who bid $2500 showed up in a fairly new Lincoln Towncar. He asked what I did for a living. At that time I was teaching school. He replied that he figured I was a doctor, lawyer or teacher or something like that . HUH?? In the same sentence??

I complained about the cost to a friend who had grown up there. He suggested I call Shorty. Shorty was a retired tree trimmer for the local electric company. Yup, he was short, and 72 years old. He said he'd do it for $7 and hour, and if I'd haul off the trimmings, I could save a lot of money. $7 was about 3X the federal minimum wage in 1976. He went up those trees with his spiked boots quicker than I could have used a ladder. He spent three days, and I spent $210. A bargain. Yes I had some stuff to haul to the free brush dump, but I had a pickup. Another friend was happy to have the large stuff for her fireplace. Chinese elm burns like paper, but FREE is nice.

What I'm trying to say, Andy, is ask around. Don't rely on Facebook or Yelp to find the best deal. There is probably a "Shorty" in your area, not that he'll do it for $7 an hour.

I've even asked for someone to perform certain tasks on craigslist. Just put up an ad that says "who trims trees cheap'". The guy who does the job may not even be the one who replies. I saved $500 on a convertible top that way a while back. The guy who did it worked at the shop that had installed a pair for me a few years earlier. He knew exactly what to do, but used my shop and had no overhead to pay for. It took him about six hours, and he got $250 for his labor. It was a good buy for me. I don't know if his boss didn't like his moonlighting, but now he has his own shop, and his prices have gone UP.

Well, Andy could do his tree trimming the way I did mine with a twelve gauge shotgun. But that would depend a lot on where he lives and how close his neighbors and their animals are; the range of a shotgun is not great, but if a slug landed on a living creature it could be fatal. Extreme caution is called for anytime firearms are used.

I started out with buckshot, but ended up using slugs. At thirty feet or so buckshot just wouldn’t do the do the job, the pattern spread too much. The largest limb I shot down was about 12 to 14 inches in diameter; if I remember correctly it took about 18 slugs to do it, but ammunition is not that expensive.
Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

I don't think my neighbor with the tulips will thank me for the shotgun method. But now I understand why I see trucks around here with 'Tree Surgeon" on the door.

Many years ago back in my early days I was livin' in liberty's land and was using my shotgun to remove a dang tree and to my surprise, up through the ground come a bubblin' crude. Next thing ya know I became a millionaire and my kinfolk convinced me to move away from there.

Here in California, I found out they don't let me use the same means to cuttin' things down. The police, that is. In fact, if I wasn't a white guy when I tried it, they'd probably cut me down.

Silicon Valley that is... Swimmin' pools, movies stars....
